“Stylish and popular”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

The Icelandair Marina is definitely one of the most popular hotels in Reykjavik. It has a quirky decor and theme, but is indeed a modern hotel with all facilities you would expect. Bathrooms have frosted glass walls and doors to the room, so it is not for the shy or people not knowing each other too well. Good size room with nice beds. Breakfast is plentiful and a modern interpretation of a hotel buffet. Location is right on the harbour front - 10 minutes walk from both Harpa and downtown. Be prepared for a party if you stay over a weekend. The lobby bar (try the homemade G&T!) is one of Reykjavik's most popular and plenty of people will keep the place spinning until 1AM . Not too much noise to be heard in the rooms though and access to the hotel floors requires a key.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a harbour view - it is stunning. Top floor has small terraces.

This quirky, hip hotel right near the Marina was a fun stay. Our main complaint is that the lobby bar turns into a Locals scene on Friday nights that is quite loud well into the wee hours. The decor is charming and unique to the marina location. The breakfast is delicious beyond description…we ate a giant smorgasbord here every morning and didn't need another meal until dinner! The staff is polite and efficient but certainly not effusively warm. If you stay elsewhere in Reykjavik, stop by for cocktail hour in the lounge, pull up a seat next to the fireplace and start chatting with the locals!

We spent our final night in Iceland at the Hotel Marina because it was one of the few with available rooms on a Friday night. The rooms are tiny, and the bathroom is tinier. There is even a sign in the bathroom that tries to excuse the size by saying that they made them that way on purpose so that you wouldn't spend much time there! In addition, the bathroom has sliding glass doors that do not even fully close located right next to the bed. The rooms are truly smaller than a standard cabin on a budget cruise line. Only one person at a time can move about. There are certainly better hotels for the money in Reykjavik.

Icelandair Reykjavik Marina offered us exactly what we wanted for our stay in Iceland. I was very impressed with the friendly service that the staff gave us. They were especially helpful with booking excursions. I liked the quirky character of the hotel especially the warm fire in the lobby, much needed after braving the cold weather. I'd recommend asking for a harbour view because the view over the mountains was spectacular. We stayed in room 306. The bathroom was small but the rainforest shower was good. The decor of the bedroom was modern and fairly minimalist but cozy.
The breakfast buffet had a great range of choice. It was part of our deal but it would be good value for money if paid for separately. It set us up for the day before our excusions. I especially enjoyed the salmon gravadlax and there was a good range of fruit, cold meats and sweet treats along with juices, tea and coffee.
The hotel was in a great location for restaurants and museums. We would definitely stay here again if we came to Iceland.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view. 3rd floor is quiet

Dear Marina Hotel!

Iceland is a unique part of the world, and your hotel is certainly part of that. I would like to thank you most warmly for your extremely generous and thoughtful hospitality extended to me during my staying in Reykjavik! Everyone was incredibly professional, courteous, helpful and charming - from the doorman to the housekeeping maids, bartenders, waiters, concierges...
I'm inspired to pass along that sense of generosity to everyone!

P.S. If you stay here, you will not wish you stayed elsewhere. Instead, it will be an experience you will never forget or regret!

We stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of our week-long Iceland trip. It was a great introduction to Iceland. The hotel is clean, modern, spacious and bright. We had a room with a harbour view – get one on an upper floor to get an unobstructed view. Boat tours start at the marina – just a one-minute walk away. Downtown is only about a 5-min walk. Although there aren’t a lot of parking spaces right next to the hotel, there are spots up and down the streets nearby – all free.

The hotel’s bar and restaurant Slipp-Barrinn is extremely popular with the locals; it’s packed on Friday and Saturday nights. Those aren’t ordinary bartenders behind the counter – they’re mixologists who can concoct the most amazing drinks. I had a gin and tonic with basil – it was so good, I had to get another. The lounge area has wonderful seating – it was really nice to relax by the fireplace with a drink. The restaurant has great food too - you need to make a reservation on a Fri or Sat night though. We didn’t have one, but they did their best to squeeze us in.

we got a killer packeage thru Icelandair for this hotel, it was to attend the Airwaves music festival.
We are easy going travellers, give us a nice bed, a clean room and a shower and we are 80% there.
The hotel has a great buffet breakfast, and a charming lobby. We were there for Airwaves so we seldom were up in time to have the breakfast by 10AM but on the two days we did make it, it was awesome.
Satff are so helpful and accomodating, Hrvoje and Sæþór on the daytime front desk were always ready to point us in the right direction. And Arnar Ingi Thors on night shift was so helpful. Sent us nearby one night where we could see the Northern lights and all.
