Owner description: The exhibition provides insight into how people lived during the Viking Age, and how the Reykjavik environment looked like to the first settlers. The centerpiece of the exhibition is an excavated longhouse, dating from the 10th century ad, preserved in situ. With the help of multimedia techniques and interactive features the original remains and Reykjavik's past are brought to life. The exhibition is suitable for all ages and includes an activity center for children. Audio Guides available in many languages.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

This museum has many interactive parts as well as artefacts. The middle part of the museum has the remains of a Viking house with several interactive lights to show different parts of the house. As you go around there are several boards packed with loads of information. At the entrance after you go down there is a area : for younger children to play in. I would recommend it, however I would of liked to see more.

“An interesting Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

This museum refers to the settlement of Iceland (near Reykjavik) in the year of 871 AD (+/- 2 years). The central area is taken up with the remains of a hut that the archeaoligists have found on the site. Around this central area is the story of the discovery and settlement of the country by the Vikings. By the use of buttons, one can interact with the display for follow-up information on any particular display. As it is in central Reykjavik, it should not be missed.

“Best Museum in Reykjavik!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We showed up just before closing one evening, and even though we had just enough time to view the whole exhibit, the lady at the desk said we could come back the next day free of charge to enjoy it for longer. Very nice!

The exhibit itself was really awesome, with super cool artifacts! It was really interactive, and full of information. I would go back again!

“Worth seeing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We'd walked past this spot several times before we noticed that is was an exhibition. It is located underground. Worth the price, nicely done in an interactive manner, and quite interesting.
