“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

This place was wonderful! I can not say enough good things about it! Its right across the street from the harbour so its not right in the middle of the hussel and bussel of the city center so we kind of fell upon this great place after we got done going whale watching. The inside looks like a downtown loft in the states, very modern! I sat on the bench against the wall and was pleasantly suprised to find that the heater is just under the seat so I stayed nice and warm....which was very much needed after being on the whale watching boat in March! Our waiter was from Ireland and was extremely helpful....he did an outstanding job! The food was to die for! We ordered 6 plates (they are small plates) and each one was fabulous! If we had enough time in Reykjavik we definitely would have gone back! If you are anywhere near the city center you should definitely walk down to the harbour and find this spectaular place, you won't be disappointed!

“ECLECTIC CHOICE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Slightly off the beaten track behind the main road which runs along the harbour this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Great choice of very tasty tapas made with unusual ingredients.
Reasonably priced for Reykjavik and wine is not too expensive for Icleand either. Would have returned the next night had we still been in the city.

“Thanksgiving dinner - sleeper hit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Friends and I were in Reykjavík for a few days around (US) Thanksgiving. We'd had a great day and spent part of the evening wandering around, intending to go to Icelandic Fish & Chips (which I remembered and loved from my trip last year) for dinner. Well, being New Yorkers, we just did not consider the possibility that they'd be closed at 9 PM.

So we wandered along Myrargata a bit, and found this place. Surprise! We had the most unique and delicious Thanksgiving dinner ever. (TIP: if you're staying at the nearby Reykjavík Downtown Hostel, you get an HI discount here - just remember to bring the voucher on the back of the maps they have at the hostel's front desk.) In terms of dining preferences, we ran the gamut from vegetarian to "YOLO, let's try the whole Icelandic zoo," and the menu suited us all. From beetroot salad to reindeer meatballs to horse (yes, horse), every dish we ordered was spectacular - beautifully presented, perfectly prepared, and delicious. It's a beautiful space inside, too!

Our server John was particularly helpful: he gave us extensive recommendations about going out in Reykjavík - he actually took the time to write out 2 sides of a page of notes! and his advice was all spot on. Much of the awesomeness of the rest of our stay was thanks to him!

Plenty to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. This place rules!

“Hidden gem: great dining concept”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We dined here twice during our recent stay. The first evening it was quiet and we experienced super quick and friendly service from an Irish sounding waiter. We decided to go for the Christmas mystery menu where you get 4 randomly chosen starters from a list with one dessert. We got a salmon dish with lime yoghurt, reindeer meatballs with blue cheese and blueberry sauce (divine), the Christmas herring and the pork belly. Each dish was tasty and exquisite lay presented. A real treat was had and we were keen to return. When we did, it was on a Saturday evening and the place was full of hoards of locals. This time we picked out what we wanted from the menu, making a beeline for that reindeer dish again! We decided to go for the whale, mussels and cod too and once again we had a memorable experience. As the restaurant was so packed, the atmosphere was buzzing, the service was a little less attentive but the aforementioned waiter did recognise us and genuinely thanked us for returning.

“At last, an affordable, gourmet restaurant in Reykjavik!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

We were tourists and spent 4 nights in Reykjavik in late October. Guidebooks are not great ways to find restaurants, but they were all that we had to go on. We found several rather low-end, but tasty, fish restaurants and a lot of extremely expensive gourmet places, which we didn't want to spend the money on. We stumbled on Forretta on a Thursday night, walked in and discovered that they were fully booked for that night. That had not been our restaurant experience so far (not being able to walk in a get a table) so we were intrigued. We booked a table for the next night and were not disappointed. The food is starters, so you get small plates of very interesting food. For less than 4000 ISK I had a full meal of three really interesting plates, and a very good dessert. Service was excellent and wait staff was very friendly. I'd go there again in a flash.
