“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Really nice looking restaurant and friendly staff. The open grill makes a good centrepiece to add to the atmosphere, and the meat did not disappoint including reindeer, puffin and whale! Good wine list (which is rare for Reyjkavik!) as well. It's fairly pricey but that is Reyjkavik!

“great service and excellent grilled food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

We just stumbled upon the place and had a quick snack. The experience was so good that we returned for a bigger meal. They make exquisite grilled food with top quality local ingredients and doesn't skimp on the desserts. The view of the coal fired grill was added entertainment. Nice and friendly service. In relation to quality, moderate prices.

“High expectations... ok food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Went for lunch last week, had the monkfish (skötuselur). It was fresh but came with rather salty dressing and I was suffering from garlic breath until dinner. On the side I had sugared potatoes which were excellent. Over all, ok food at best, nice atmosphere, good service and fair price.

“Food, Service, Atmosphere - all perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We loved this restaurant. It was our first meal in Reykjavik and the best! We arrived early in the morning and had no reservation for dinner that night. As we wandered the city -we visited The Grill Market and two other very poplar restaurants - they were all booked! All restaurants were polite, but The Grill Market was very gracious indicating that if we came early - 6:00 - 6:30 p.m. they might be able to fit us in and it would be worth a try. We arrived around 6:30 p.m - they remembered us and found us a great table --- again so gracious and welcoming.

I'm not sure which course was the best . . . they were all so memorable. I had the pork as a starter it was wonderful. The red fish was just amazing and not too spicy - both courses had so many subtle flavors. I am usually not a desert person . . . however, the chocolate - carmel desert should not be missed. . . really. It was that good.

We enjoyed many wonderful meals in Reykjavik - truly a city for folks who enjoy good food - but we both agreed that The Grill Market the best.
