“Great location, relaxed and comfortable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

Had a very enjoyable experience at this hotel which, as other reviewers have noted, delivers as advertised. It is a simple, clean, easy place to stay. The location is terrific, I'd even say dramatic, being right across from the square with the large statue of Erikson and the beautiful cathedral. Great memories.

+ Location near Reykjaviks main kitchen is excellent.
+ Hotel is a bid small, but its price/value ratio is very good.
+ Very good is that water and coffee is offered 24x7 for free.
- Design of rooms is quite outdated
- No go: Power/Telephone jacks had been loose (dangerous!)
- Bathroom needs serious redesign, looking being last refreshed in 1970?
- Brushing teeth impossible w/o hitting shelf placed stupidly above the micro-sized washing bin.
- Water constantly smelled sulphuric (which might not be a problem of the hotel, but more a general problem in Reykjavik area).
- When showering warm, fire alarm starts by accident.
- WLAN was offered for free, but never worked stable in our room - even not in lobby (and yes, we are expert knowing how to connect).

Room Tip: Corner room with view to church.

I am rating this establishment based on exactly what it is advertised to be; clean, simple, friendly, great location, etc. The Hyatt it ain't, but then again the Leifur Eiriksson is considered very reasonable for Reykjavik. The staff was very helpful in assisting us with planning our outings and restaurant reservations. If you enjoy fresh fish, Iceland is the place to be. We liked having hot drinks available in the lobby 24/7. The breakfast was good and hearty. Try the local Icelandic brown bread. We liked it so much that we purchased some at the local grocery to bring back home. The location is central and easy to find. (Watch out for taxi cab drivers who claim to not know where the hotel is located!) This is not a big chain hotel with any fancy amenities, if that's what you are accustomed to. However, if you're looking for an small, Icelandic cultural experience, I would recommend this hotel for your visit.

Room Tip: Our room had a wonderful view of the church, albeit it can be a bit noisy. If you want a quieter roo...

Stayed for four nights with Icelandair package on bed and breakfast basis inc transfers. Did not stay in the main building but in the building approx 100 meters away across other side of the road (No hardship).
The hotel is really basic the rooms were clean if a little shabby, there was just a shower, no safe and no fridge, however the best thing about the hotel is the location. The only negative thing i can think of was a rather chaotic breakfast room. All the sites, bars, restaurants etc were just a walk away. The staff were really friendly too. If location is important then this hotel is a good choice.
Will definitely return to Reykjavik and would go to this hotel again.

Let's keep this simple. Pros Location on top of the hill just a short walk to bars and restaurants. You will not get lost but there are probably better located hotels in the city center. The hotel accommodated early check in and the staff is very helpful. The rooms are clean. Breakfast is good. Cons. The hot water is not filtered and and therefore it smells. The rooms and bathrooms are small. There are no amenities, no swimming pool, no exercise equipment, no basic shower soaps, shampoos or conditioners.
Bottom line for Americans similar to the appointments of a Super 8.

Room Tip: Try to get a view of the Church

Our second stay at the Hotel Leifur Eriksson and no problems found again. This is not a luxury hotel but is comfortable clean and well run. The main reason for return is the location, right opposite the big church so you can always find your way back and a couple of minutes from the bars cafe and shopping in downtown Reykjavik.

The rooms and bathrooms are quite small but are clean and warm, sometimes too warm but radiators can be turned off and windows opened unlike some hotel we have stayed in Reykjavik. Some room have great views of the church - we had a ground floor room with a church view on one stay and a rear room with little view the previous stay but room at the back benefit from no street noises. Free wifi is benefit but can be bit patchy.

Breakfast is good with fruit, cheese, meats and toast and the like. And waffle to make freshly yourself! Hot and Cold drinks available all of the time in the lounge.

The staff are polite and helpful and will willing to help with the trip questions etc.

Not luxury travel but a great hotel! We have enjoyed this hotel more than higher star hotel.

Our room was across the street from the main hotel. It was small and worn but met our needs. The location is perfect to visit key places in the city, shop and hit some great restaurants. A standard Icelandic breakfast of meat cheese bread herring and coffee with a few extra treats.
