“Arctic Char”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

There was great food, great service, great music and a great atmosphere at the Rosenberg. Our Arctic Char was tasty and the chocolate dessert was divine! Our waitress was attentive and helped in answering questions that we had. The restaurant is decorated with instruments, books and other items of years gone by and the musicians sang songs that were mesmerizing. It was pricey by Canadian standards, but it was a wonderful outing.

“Great spot for food, libations and music!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

We passed this popular establishment one night where the crowd was enjoying live Icelandic music. It was standing-room-only and we were headed to meet friends elsewhere, so we committed to returning the next night.

My paranoia kicked in and I asked to make a reservation. The employees were happy to take it, but when we returned, we found that it was not necessary. [We arrived at 800 pm and the place was empty up until about 845 pm.]

The live music was "slated" to start at 900 pm, but it didn't start until about 1015 pm. [I think that the employee taking my reservation gave me the wrong start time. If you come after dinner, there is a 2000k cover-charge per person.]

Also, the talent line-up is crucial. It appears that the night we missed was a popular Icelandic band. The night that we showed up, was a combined marquee with a great techno-like Icelandic group (Sometime) followed by a Norwegian gig (Layla?) who was not popular with the sparse crowd.

Regardless, these things happen, but I would still return for the music.

As for the menu, it is quite broad and there are selections for everyone. We only had a dessert and some cocktails because I was full from an earlier meal.

If you want a popular, well-known establishment for live music, Cafe Rosenberg is your spot!

“Fantastic Chef and Music Every Night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

This is our go-to place. It's like the "Cheers of Reykjavik." Come early, sit at the bar and chat with the lovely bartenders and local characters. Or join one of the larger tables and make new friends, or get to know your date at one of the tables for two. Soon you'll be part of the Rosenberg crowd. The food is all freshly made with local ingredients like arctic char, Icelandic lamb and super-fresh produce by proprietor Doddi Paumason, a warm, welcoming host with a big heart.

Doddi provides the stage and the sound system, but lets the night's musicians keep 100% of the door, which might range from free to 2000 Icelandic Kronor per guest. (Of course, there's no door charge if you just eat dinner and leave before the music starts.)

The first monday of the month is Blues night, so if you're in town, don't miss it. Music starts at 9 weekdays and 10 Saturdays and Sundays. There's someone great playing every night.

P.S. Ignore the one-star reviewer, who must have been having a bad night and listen to the other reviewers here.

“Great venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

As with most of Iceland's restaurants it's not cheap but I would recommend it. Lovely premises, friendly service and tasty food.

We stayed for the gig after, the guy singing was very talented and very amusing!

“Great food and music”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

We had dinner here and were both very happy with the chicken pasta dish we both ordered. The service was perfect and the staff helpful and attentive. We stayed to watch some live Icelandic music which was a lovely way to spend the evening.
