Stayed there in March 2007 and found it a nice place. As others have said, the rooms are not huge but there are kept spotless.
Some of the staff were friendly, others a bit cold.Although most Icelanders are very friendly I found.
The dining room has a self-service buffet which was OK although the selection always seemed to be the same each day.
I found a place across the road inside the Subway shop .It's called Supabarinn and it sells very nice homemade soups.
The hotel is a bit out of town although you could walk, it's a bit of a trek especially in the freezing weather I experienced. It's better to take the bus (12 or 16) from the stop across the road and along to the left about 100 yards. It costs 280 krona and takes about 10-15 minutes.the no. 12 is better as it goes right into the centre.I only took a taxi once and it was 1000 krona.
It's worth getting out of the capital. The Blue Lagoon is a must and i also went on a trip to Geysir to see the famous geyser.
I would recommend the Hotel Cabin. As long as you don't expect the height of luxury, it's an ideal base.
