“Nice and modern”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

This was a great little hotel. The rooms were a little small, but the beds were comfy and the rooms spotless. Hotel staff were super helpful and the restaurant was very good. Not very close for city center but nice and quiet. Definitely would consider staying here again

We stayed for 6 nights at the Natura and it was a good base for exploring Reykjavik. The hotel provided free Reykjavik bus passes for us while we stayed there and they were a great help as it allowed us to move around very efficiently. It was also only a 20 minute walk into town provided the weather cooperated. We came to understand the Icelandic joke "if you don't like the weather just wait five minutes", as we started walking in the sunshine, got soaked in the middle and finished in the sunshine again. The restaurant in the Natura, Satt, gave us some of the best meals we have had in many years. Even if you do not stay at the Natura while you are in Reykjavik you should go there for dinner, you will not regret it. It was a comfortable place to stay and the only thing it missed for us was a more comfortable set of chairs in the room to sit and read. We cannot comment on the Spa as it was not open for hours convenient for us and needed to be booked well in advance. The staff were very friendly, efficient and very busy. It seems to be a hotel popular with tour parties as morning and evening the reception was packed with people checking in or out.

While checkin for our group seemed slow, the rest of our experience with staff was good. The room had a filthy carpet, and under the beds had not been vacuumed for a long time; in general, the hotel is old and tired - adjacent to the Reykjavic domestic airport (when we opened the window to cool the room, as no AC or fan seemed in effect, Avgas seeped in) - airplane noise was present into the early evening. Room did have a frig, old fashioned tv, coffee maker, and phone. Furniture old land scuffed, but functional. A small bar and restaurant on first floor - moderate buffet breakfast. No noise from outside after 10 pm, and curtains did good job keeping out light in June.

We were booked in this hotel via our travel agency in a package deal, so we didn't know what to expect. The rooms and bathrooms were quite small - not a 4 star standard, but clean and quiet. We didn't mind, as we didn't spend much time at the hotel. The lobby was nicely designed, there were some wooden statues standing there, and a huge wall screen with nature images and nature sounds playing. A beautiful fireplace separated the lobby from the restaurant area. The meals were good and the service as well. You could feel a little bit like home. The only inconvenient was the distance - the hotel was quite far from the center town. but the hotel offered a free bus pass. Unfortunately the bus schedule was twice an hour, you were faster by foot. Maybe not the best choice hotel, but it was not bad at all afterall.

We stayed at the Icelandair Hotel Reykjavik Natura as part of a deal with Icelandair, so we weren't sure what to expect. It turns out that it was a solid choice. The hotel is across the street from Perlan ("The Pearl"). It sits on the rear-facing side, with a very pleasant trail up to the Perlan, with lots of views along the way. If you enjoy walking, the city is approximately 20 minutes away on foot. For the rainy days, or those days when we didn't feel like walking, we took advantage of the free bus pass offered by the hotel. The bus pass was valid for the public transportation system, which was excellent - otherwise it would have cost 350 ISK each way for each of us. By walking in to the city, we discovered several neat places that we otherwise may have missed.
Also, when we booked our day excursions, there was pickup and drop off directly at the hotel, which was very convenient.
The rooms are a decent size by European standards - I've paid more for less in other places. Our room had a nice view of the Pearl. The restaurant had good food, and the prices were reasonable by hotel standards and on par with what you would expect to pay in town.
We would definitely stay there again. Though there was a domestic airport adjacent to the property, the only time we heard any noise from it was when we were walking next to it outside.

Rooms small, but fine. Breakfast good, not very big. Lunch good. A 20-30 min walk to center. Small domestic airport next door, not a problem at night. Nice path up to the Pearl viewpoint, otherwise not a very nice aera. Next time I would like to stay at the countryside!

Firstly Iceland is a "must see" during anyone's lifetime. The unique landscape and the fact that its one of the worlds newest countries in terms land formation, meeting of the american and european plates and other unique formations means that its pretty unmissable as a destination...but just to see that uniqueness. Also the fact that iceland is 90% plus geothermic energy means that it will be among the cleanest air you will ever breath. There is hardly any dust on any windows because they don't depend much on fossil fuel. We felt healthier just being there. Try and use Geotours, the spanish guide was fantastic.

Natura is ok. Its certainly not cheap and its sadly about a 20 min walk from Reykavik and about a 8 min (infrequent) bus ride from the city centre. The city centre itself is hardly big...just an average UK high street to be honest. There aren't that many shops and they are all ridiculously expensive as is food and the bars. We stupidly thought we would try the gay bar there and it was £30 for 2 drinks and pretty rubbish so we left after our first drink. Whoever tries to sell you iceland as a clubbing destination is talking rubbish. It really isn't a "young people" city at all. Go there for eco-tourism but not clubbing or dining experiences. The cost of eating and drinking out is astronomical so budget well.

Anyway back to Natura...we had a room overlooking the airport which was a bit disappointing. Planes are extremely infrequent so its not really a problem. Room size was perfectly adequate and we did have access to the free lounge which meant you could get coffees (if you could work the machine out - no milk btw) and some nice snacks and cookies. I think we struggled with the TV a bit as english isn't necessarily their biggest market.

We were slightly disappointed with the spa to be honest. Over the easter bank holiday you would expect them to open it up to late but it was shut for most of the time. I specifically paid for a hotel with a spa as me and my boyfriend as we wanted to have treatments but it was mostly closed during the evening and that was the only time we could have done as we were on tours during the day. Don't specifically book easter weekends if I were you.

There was also a small gym but weirdly none of the brochures (nor the staff) talk about it much...I only found it because I was wandering around the hotel!

The on site restaurant is ok...does a reasonable set meal (expensive by UK standards for what it is but affordable). We went out for a cheap burger which I hate which tells you how expensive it is there.

All in all a must place to visit...but try to get one of the hostels or small hotels right smack bang in the centre. Having said that there are some nice walks around, grab a coffee at the large dome building you can see from the hotel...free refills as well.

Room Tip: try to get a room NOT on the same side as the airport but with a view of the domed restuarant
