Well, you are thinking about doing something out of the box, an adventure in Iceland!
You have an opportunity to fly on Icelandair and go to this a place you had always wondered about and knew existed, but in your life were you going there? The answer is YES!
This hotel is one of the reasons why.
We just came back from a mesmerizing and awe inspiring, whirlwind 5 day, 4 night trip to Iceland, as part of a packaged trip by Icelandair, who also happen to own this clean, friendly and stylishly modern European chic hotel.
Here you feel safe and nurtured, where outside the wind may be howling and the views of the outlying landscape may be almost unworldly and strange. You look at where you are on the map, and you question that you can be in such a civilized and wholesome environment, hosted by unpretentious efficient and caring staff. Your room is very clean, yet simple, there is no wasted space, you sense that everything here is done to meet your needs, and yet not in a flamboyant or excessive way. The beds are comfortable and relaxing, the linens soothing, and the clean white comforter gives you any warmth your body may need after a day outside in ever changing skies and winds.
Downstairs you can book tours to all sorts of exciting and breathtaking locals, or just take the shuttle into town. Our package included daily breakfast, which was a great way to start our day, lots of choices and many new tastes for our conditioned North American palalates. The waffles were great, lots of wonderful fresh jome baked breads to sample, even the butter had a sweeter and more flavorsome taste, yogurt and fresh raspberries was very yummy. Evenings after a day of tours of the outlaying countryside it was often easier to grab dinner at Satt, the in house restaurant, that was reasonable (by Icelandic standards) and served enjoyable meals that were not overly filling, but tastey. I was able to enjoy a nice glass of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon with my dinner, so I was a happy man.
Downstairs is a wonderfully warm indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and spa, we took advantage of it on a couple of occasions to start the day and honor the Icelandic tradition of having a swim in a Geothermically heated pool as part of their daily routine, relaxing and healthy way to start your day!
It seems everyone is up and on the go early, daylight is a key concern as the days shorten in the fall, our trip was in the last week of September and the days were almost exactly the same length as the ones in Ottawa Canada, where we live. The weather was not harsh, as one might suspect at such northern climes, daytime temperatures reached about 11* C or just over 50*F. The wind was everpresent, at the very least a moderate breeze, and sometimes strong and pushing showers of rain at times, we were told that the weather is predictably unpredictable, so pack wind and water proof garments and shoes. The outdoors in this country is to be enjoyed and experienced, the scenery is breathtaking and ever changing.
I am just reading some of the other reviews of this hotel, and it seems the destination "Iceland" is being reviewed and not so much the hotel. So in fairness I will say that this is rated as a 4 star hotel, and it is, just not in the opulent fashion of many you have been to, but more in the sense of a cosy and safe feeling habitat, that provides you classy, comfortable surroundings, with an efficient and understanding staff to respond to your needs. The Icelandics are a proud and independent people, proud of their history and heritage, and caring to their visitors in a quiet and unassuming way, not too loud or gregarious, more modest and genuine. This hotel is all of that, clean, modern, efficient, unassuming and with a sense of cultured class, but not snobbery, it is a welcome haven to those that are brave enough to step out of the travel box and adventure somewhere unique thoroughly exciting, and beautifully intriguing. Don't expect eye popping oppulence, but do expect cleanliness and comfort, warmth and attention to detail, Hotel Natura was a hit for us on our trip and just what we needed to compliment our adventure to a land of natural beauty and a people of genuine warmth and quiet charms.
About 2 miles from downtown, approximately a 30 minute walk
