“Best place to stay in Reykjavik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Igdlo is a terrific place to stay - Fridrik and Ingi were both so welcoming, so helpful and just so kind to my friend and I. Right from when we made our reservation, to changing the furniture in the room to suit our needs, to answering all our silly questions, to providing excellent tourist and travel information to renting us a car. We were treated so well and nothing seemed to be too much effort for them. Ingi even helped me with my camera. The guesthouse is so conveniently located (and quiet), clean and very comfortable. The kitchen, although small, was well equipped and well appointed - plus the dinning area had a wonderful choice of great books on Iceland and Greenland. The price is right too. I would recommend the Igdlo to anyone!

My partner and I stayed in one of Igdlo's double rooms during July 2012. The room was a little small compared to others we stayed in during your trip to Iceland but it was clean and comfortable. The location in good, handy to the bus station and within easy walking distance to town. We checked in at 1am in the morning without a problem. The free internet was much appreciated and the kitchen was well equipped and very modern. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a slight mixed up with our booking during our second stay but we ended up with a much better room with no extra charge which was much appreciated. The guesthouse is divided into 3 levels, floors 2 & 3 appear to be the noisest so I suggest asking for a room on the 1st floor if you are wanting a sleep in or don't have ear plugs. We would stay here again if we returned to iceland for another visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on level 1.

Found this hostel as a good alternative to more expensive accommodation options in Reykjavik.
The staff was friendly (family run), the room was cozy and the kitchen well equipped.
Location is convenient - 10 minute walk to centre and shops. Also the walk to the (recommended!) Saga museum in Perlan is a nice stroll.
Overall was very happy with Igdlo and will definitely recommend it.

Igdlo has many features that will be a comfort to travelers on a budget. It's a very easy walk to the main sights in Reykjavik; the rooms are spacious and very clean; the kitchen is well-maintained and includes a self-serve espresso machine; guests can use the computer whenever they want. What made a special impression on us, though, was the service. One of the owners, Ingi, works tirelessly to make everyone feel welcome and to accommodate everyone's different needs. The kindness we experienced here during our 3 nights in Reykjavik made Igdlo more than just a place to stay; it was one of the highlights of our trip. We hope to go back one day!

Ingi, one of the brothers who own and run the Igdlo Guesthouse does all he can to make one's visit pleasant and restful. Igdlo is a value-for-the-money guesthouse in very expensive Reykjavik. Within walking distance of the BSI (bus depot) and only a bit more to the center of town, Igdlo guesthouse makes a comfortable base from which to explore Reykjavik and beyond. Hot coffee available almost around the clock; strong internet in your room (very important). Trees on the grounds add to Igdlo's charm. Incredibly well equipped kitchen at your disposal makes for easy self-catering; cook up your favorite gourmet delight. It was good to stay here and I didn't have to break my piggy bank. I recommend it.
