“Great stay despite the renovation works.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

I stayed a week at this hotel with my son and found the hotel to be clean, beds were very comfortable and breakfast was great. The hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly. They were eager to assist us in car hire, directions etc. The Hotel was in the midst of a major renovation and so was practically a building site. It was noisy during the day which did not bother us as we were out most of the day visiting the sites. The noise didn't start till late so it didn't affect us. Our room was old but spacious and easily met our needs. The bathroom also needed renovating but was clean and functional. My son commented that the Wifi was excellent so he was happy. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: We had one of the back rooms that faced the amazing view of the bay.

Whist there are good things about this hotel it was all overshadowed by the building work. The noise, dust and mess was unbelievable. It was unsafe, (power tools left on stairs) and frustrating (the small lift was took over by the builders during the day) The noise starting from 7am till after 7pm and was constant. You could not even get the family in and out safely as the builders trucks blocked the front lobby and would knock you down if you got in the way. I'm sure there must have been injuries as no thought or attention was given to paying guests. The staff whilst mostly helpful we're no use at all. God help anyone with small children. Mine is 10 years old so had a bit of common sense. I'm personally disgusted that a room you have paid for is rendered unuseable throughout the entire day, we will be chasing a refund through our travel agent and I would implore everyone NOT to book this hotel, unless they enjoy staying on a building site.

Room Tip: We asked for a higher room but to be honest the noise came from every direction.

We arrived from the US at 4:30am and needed a place to rest our heads as we were heading to the Hockey Rink for a 1pm game. Our apartment was not ready until 2pm, so we booked Hotel Island based on its proximity to the rink and the price. We were not disappointed.

We were able to rest in the small but ample room. Breakfast downstairs was very nice and had lots to choose from.

When we booked the room we knew about the construction going on. I would stay there again knowing that everything will be updated and new in the very near future.

The front desk staff was very helpful. They stored our bags for us and gave great directions around the area.

I had read a few reviews about this hotel and the current renovations and was a little concerned having already booked our stay however despite the front looking a bit like a building site we had a very pleasant stay. Our room was very spacious and clean with a unexpected fantastic view. We were aware of the drilling when we were there during the day but it did not affect us and I would love to return when all the renovations are complete!! There was plenty of variety for breakfast and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed our walks into Reykjavik however with the weather as it was it was not for the faint hearted!!

I stayed there with my friends, we were only there for only 4 nights. It is was a very pleasant hotel and the view was amazing. They helped me with sorting out excursions and took the stress away. The breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. If i were to back to Iceland I will staying here again.

Currently a lot of renovations going on which does mean there is some noise and building work around. The booking did state that the noise would be from 10am-5pm but there were days when it started at 8am and was going on well past 5pm which isn't great!

The rooms are spacious but a bit dated which I assume will be addressed in the refurb.

Free Wifi through-out with a decent signal is always a bonus.

The breakfast was nice enough and had a reasonable selection to choose from.

Location is good -very close to some restaurants, bars, pharmacy and shops. It's also on a few KM walk into the main part of the city or a short taxi ride.

The staff at the hotel were all great and more than helpful through-out the stay.

One odd thing is the 2nd floor...I've read through some previous comments and it does seem to be an old folks residential home!? Bit strange but inoffensive.
