Our stay at Castle House was excellent. Our room was great - extrememly comfortable and warm and with free wifi. It was also very quiet, and as a light sleeper I had no trouble. The location was great, it was just a short walk from the main city centre, bus terminals and restaurants. The customer service was also excellent, for example we lost one of our keys during the trip and when we reported it, they told us not to worry about it and did not charge us.

As a word of warning, through no fault of Castle House, a lot of the tour companies were not entirely sure where it was. If you stay here, I would recommend sending the name and full address to tour companies when arranging for them to pick you up.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay :)

Castle House Luxury Apartments were opened in 1996 and all the established tour companies know exactly where we are.

In the last couple of years with the great increase in tourism many new tour companies have been started and unfortunately not all of them have done their homework.

So yes, it is a good idea to make sure they know where you and Castle House are when you book with them.

I hope to see you again in the near future

For a price less than a nice hotel room in the same area, I rented a beautifully appointed and comfortable apartment with a queen bed, fully stocked kitchen, and bathroom. An excellent value, I would definitely stay here again.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Castle House Luxury Apartments on Nov 5 -10, 2013. After reading the great reviews on trip advisor and reviewing their website, we booked 2 apartments for a total of 5 nights. It was a pleasure dealing with Freyja Dana who supplied us with detailed information on transportation, things to do in Reykjavik, tours, etc. I had difficulty finding a tour guide to take us from Reykjavik to the Glacier Lagoon in Jokulsarlon at this time of year. I reached out to Freyja for help. She gladly researched it for us and was able to find a tour operator to take us.

Two of us stayed in apt #10 for 2 nights. It was exceptionally clean with all the amenities you needed. I especially loved the heated tile floor in the bathroom and view of the lake across the street. The location is perfect. In town, but a few blocks away from the noise and activity, We could walk everywhere. On day 3, two friends joined us and we transferred to Apt #70 at their sister location..Embassy Luxury Apartments. We stayed there for 3 nights. It was a beautiful, large 3 bedroom apartment. It was very tastefully decorated. I especially loved the floor to ceiling library in the large hallway. Embassy is a few blocks from Castle House and only 2 blocks from the restaurants and shops. The beds and pillows at both locations were extremely comfortable. We slept very well. Each apt has detailed information of how to use the phone, Wi-Fi, TV, etc. Local calls and Wi-Fi are free.

I must also note that Freyja allowed us to check in early since the room hadn't been booked the night before. We arrived at 9am and simply rang the buzzard for the office. Although they are off site, they will answer the intercom, identify you, then buzz you in. It was very simple.

Iceland is a beautiful country. We enjoyed our visit immensely. I look forward to visiting again in the summer months and will definitely stay at Castle House/Embassy Luxury Apts. Freyja went out of her way to accommodate us and made our stay a truly wonderful experience.

We stayed in Apt 30 the first week in November for a 3-night stay. When researching lodging in Reykjavik I found many reviews where travelers had trouble getting sleep due to noise from local bars and nightclubs as Reykjavik is known for partying. We were seeking a quiet retreat close to city center but away from this noise disturbance. I rightly chose Castle House as it is situated adjacent to a museum, an embassy and a church. We enjoyed peace and quiet throughout our stay that included a Friday night. The check in process was easy and clearly communicated. The common areas like the apartment have a high standard of cleanliness and great attention to detail. The apartment felt like a home away from home and I would love to stay here again. I am very picky about cleanliness and this apartment was pretty much immaculate. There was a living area with couch, table for 4, a door leading out to a private balcony overlooking the city pond, an adequate hallway closet, a comfortable bed with another closet and a small bathroom. The kitchen was nicely stocked with coffee, tea, sugar and milk in the fridge for morning coffee. There were the basics of dishwasher tablets, paper towels, hand soap and salt and pepper provided. There was plenty of light and good heat from the radiators. There were two big windows and a smaller window on the balcony door with shades. We were greeted with flowers and other treats as we were celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary. Freyja who confirmed our reservation, checked us in and arranged for us to keep our luggage securely stored on the day we checked out was wonderful. The apartment is a 20-minute walk from the bus terminal and a 2-minute walk to city center with restaurants and shops.

Of note: The shower doors are designed in a way that you need to be careful how you close them to ensure not to get water all over the bathroom floor, the Wi-Fi was very weak and our Iphones would not connect but our Ipad did. But this didn’t matter to us as this accommodation is high quality. The high quality of service, attention to cleanliness and details seems to come from an owner that takes great pride in their property and values and cares about their guest’s experience.

Room Tip: Apt 30 was fantastic.

Thank you for your review. I am very glad you enjoyed staying with us for your anniversary :)

As more and more people now travel with multiple computers, iPads, iPhones and or Android devices, our system had run out of connections for them all.

This has now been fixed (the day you checked out actually) with the addition of the third router
This one operates on 4G and can easily handle the added traffic. Problem fixed !

I hope you consider us for your next anniversary :)

Stayed in studio apartment 62 in the garden. Good communication prior to arrival made life easy.
Looks exactly like website pictures, nice size for a 4 day stay, very clean and everything you would need including supply of milk, tea, coffee, sugar, showergel and shampoo.
Beds fantastically comfortable, shower good and hot (intriguing sulpher smell included !).
58 steps from garden area to benches outside the National Gallery, looking out over the city lake, i would have my morning coffee here and watch the swans, geese and ducks at play on the lake. Bakery, supermarket (we liked Bonus best !) and city centre an easy 5 minute walk
Reykjavick is a lovely little city with friendly people, interesting architecture and not as expensive as people say but when it's windy- boy it's cold !
I would fully recommend Castle House Apartments and would gratefully stay again.

Room Tip: studio 62 is a good price and would meet your needs for a shortish stay.

Booked to stay at the Castle House Apartments for our last night in Iceland. We were upgraded from our original booking in apartment 61 to apartment 10 which was a nice surprise. After a horrendous drive from Kirkjubaejarklaustur through snow, wind and ice it was a delight to check-in to the Castle House Apartments.

The apartment was excellent with kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room. The heated floor in the bathroom was great for cold toes as was the lovely hot shower. A great comfy bed made for an excellent nights sleep. Despite staying only one night I could easily have stayed for longer.

The location was great within easy walking distance of the whole city centre in close proximity to shops, restaurants and the harbour. For those with a car, parking was readily available in the streets around the apartments. When I'm next in Reykjavik, the Castle House will be the place that I choose to stay.

The luxury apartment of number 10 was perfect. The home is opened up to warmth, tasteful decor and all the amenities you require for a comfortable stay. The self contained apartment has a great en suite shower room (with heated flooring - for those bitterly cold days and nights) and a kitchen that has everything you need. The apartment is minutes away from all the cities attractions. The ease of walking to this place is why we chose yo stay here and I can see why this apartment deserves the 2013 award.

when we're back, we'll definitely stay here again.
