these are self contained apts. central to the the sites. they are quiet and clean but no bargin. service was by buzzer only-there seemed to be no human being on site. the entryway was surrounded by small flies. there is a kitchen and food shopping nearby.
its a bit hard to find--on a small side street next door to the main art gallery of iceland.
there is free street parking on weekends.

Room Tip: always bring eyeshades to iceland in the summer.

Unusual review. The small flies hatch in the lake in front of the hotel early May and are only around for a couple of weeks. This was explained in a earlier reply. Also we are there 24/7 and meet most of our guests on arrival. The door phone is only needed when we are tending to other apartments and is used to ensure immediate check in for all guests. We also have 24/7 information service by phone. We have great ratings on TripAdvisor because of our service.

Nothing fancy here. No hotel services. Just a comfortable room (with a mini-kitchen) on a quiet street a 5 minute walk from the main commercial part of Reykjavik. Great value for what you get. A warning if you go in June or July -- it's light out 24/7 and the Castle House isn't equipped with black-out shades. Pack sleep masks.

Thank you for your reveiw. We do not provide 24 hour room service and we do not have a sauna or a swimming pool. Not many hotels do. We pride ourselves of our great service in other areas:
24 hour check in, daily maid service and cleaning to the highest standards, 24 hour help and advise, comfortable beds and furniture, fully equipped kitchenettes with free coffee and tea, free early check in if your apartment was free on the day before. We offer to send a car for you to the airport and we shop for breakfast items for you if you like.

And we do have dark blinds that work rather well although the rooms do not become pitch dark
when the sun shines brightly. We offer sleep masks to those who wish. And we offer a great location, in the city center, but outside the city noise, beside the Gallery of Modern Art and by the city pond.

I stayed at the Castle House for one week with a twelve year old. I have to say the location was wonderful, it is between a 5-10 minute walk to either the City Center, BSI Bus Station, Hop On Hop Off pickup, and the Iceland Excursions Tour Bus site. The public bus stop is also nearby.
We arrived early on our first day, our room wasn't ready but the manager was very helpful in storing our luggage. She also gave us great directions and pointers to the city center to grab a bite to eat.
The room was also very clean. It was an indulgence to have our room cleaned and dished done after coming home from a long day tour. The kitchenette was small, but did the job to fix a full dinner.
I traveled with my daughter and I have to say two females traveling alone the hotel location was very safe.

My wife and I and two grown up daughters stayed here for a 3 night break at the end of June. We had originally booked into Apartment 'K' because of it's quirky website photos and 'central location' but upon arrival had found it to be uninhabitable so had to find somewhere else quickly.

We picked the Castle House (actually the Embassy) apartment because it was 3 bedrooms, well located and had very positive reviews. Our expectations were in fact exceeded. The place is perfectly situated in a quiet (I mean NO NOISE at all) location near the foreign embassies, just a minutes walk from the centre. The apartment is well appointed and spacious with plenty of clean linen and towels as well as a daily maid service. There is also complimentary Coffee and Tea which was very much appreciated.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms large, with blackout blinds as well as curtains (icelandic summer 'nights' never really get dark.) The staff were very helpful, especially considering our 'last minute arrival (we booked on line then showed up 10 minutes later at the door!).

Just to cap it all, the spacious 3 bedroom apartment was significantly cheaper than the 'deluxe' Apartment K rabbit hutch which had no door on the toilet. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if we visit Reykjavik again will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: 3 bedroom apartment was very large and comfortable with two doubles and 1 twin room. Would easily sl...

The two young ladies that we dealt with, were phenomenal and very helpful. Thumbs up for courtesy and for being welcoming. The location is perfect, close to everything but yet, quiet and very private.

Thanks and we will see you again in Iceland, we loved your country.

Overall a great stay except for a few difficulties while checking in.

They should also provide blinds on the windows because its impossible to sleep during summer when it still has sunlight at 11 pm in the evening.

Thank you for your review. We do provide roll down blinds that darken the rooms about 95%
We will also provide eye masks for those who want them.

During June and the first half of July the sun hardly sets in Reykjavik (and not al all in the North)
This year it has also been unusually sunny, almost 2 months of all day sunshine without much rain.

This gives great conditions for enjoying the outdoors 24 hours a day. Icelanders tend to sleep
less during summer and postpone all that for the dark of winter. Most Icelanders also enjoy falling asleep in the sunshine so we were a bit blind to the needs of our guests for darkness during the night when starting the business in 1996

We listen carefully to what our guesta say and have made more improvements after their advise than we can count, including the blinds, and now making eye shades available.

Unfortunately summer in Iceland is short and "normal" conditions return after mid July

For a five day stay, located a very short walk from the down-town action, these comfortable, clean, well-equipped, self-catering apartments are the perfect choice.

Very close to the city, 5 minute walk, but quiet. Unlike some of the city centre hotels, were other travellers we met complained about the loud noise (central city, nightclubs, partytime – hey... what do you expect!?)

There are two garden apartments (1 or 2 steps). Two lower level, about 5-6 entry steps; and two upper apartments - with balcony, and views across the swan, duck and Arctic tern inhabited pond, accessed via the entry steps, plus about a dozen more.

I mention the steps – not a problem for those who are mobile, which I am... except, I went caving (Buri lava cave – fantastic!!), and then the next day horse riding (Ishenska horses – even more fantastic) – by then of course my legs refused to work properly for a day or two, and so the steps became a real issue.

In the upper Apt 30, the lounge/dining area has a comfortable sofa, with a circular table, seating four, plus satellite tv. Very small kitchen, electric stove, mini fridge, mini dishwasher, though equipped with the utensils every creative cook needs. BONUS!! if you forget to wash up – don't worry... the kitchen cleaning fairy comes along each morning and does it for you :)
Nearby fishmonger, corner store, and Bonus Supermarket, make self-catering easy.

Bathroom is cute! With a very clever semi-circular, folding doors that expand to allow shower usage, but then collapse to reclaim the space. Heated floor and towel rail – lovely! Get used to the sulphur smell, especially from the hot water.

Comfortable bed, though curiously two singles together, that had castor feet – be sure to engage the brakes. Pillows! What is it with pillows in Europe? Sad, sack, soggy things... no bounce back... luckily firm cushions that also adorn the bed provide the needed support. Summertime, despite the blinds, you need bed eyewear to keep out the light (it does not get dark).

For 19 pounds, you can have arranged for your arrival, breakfast stocks of, orange juice, milk, eggs, bread, bacon(-ish??), butter, yoghurt, fruit, jams – ample for two-three brekky's for two.

At 69 pounds, the personal airport car transfer is perhaps a tad luxury (but with a 1am arrival, who wants anything less). You can easily arrange the bus, for a mere 2200ISK per person – Iceland Express ??? (not flybus) will pickup directly from the apartments 3 hours prior to flight time.

Room Tip: Garden rooms for mobility, upper rooms for views
