“Perfect hotel, loved it - book a character room!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

After reading a few reviews I contacted the hotel in advance to ensure our room was correctly booked. We were allocated the character rooms I requested and these are above and beyond that of a three star hotel! A fridge in the room for the cheap bottle of wine we purchased in the airport a big bonus too..
Staff are extremely helpful. We were so tired on our first evening they assisted us in ordering in a pizza – Domino’s arrived within 25 minutes – and so cheap!!! On night two they placed a dinner reservation at a restaurant in town for us also.
Free car parking is a massive bonus, a small multi-story attached to the hotel. The hotel does sit on a strange road, just 10-20 minutes’ walk from the central City area depending on where you wish to deem it starts. To be fair Reykjavik is pretty uninspiring compared to the rest of the Island. We were fortunate the weather was fabulous during our stay, so did not spend that much time in the hotel.
Breakfast is tasty and whilst not lots of choice perfectly satisfying. Lovely warm fresh rolls and pastries daily served with lovely fresh coffee and cold juices.
I absolutely cannot fault our stay, we loved Iceland, and the character rooms here were an added bonus. Thank You so much.

Room Tip: Definitely get a character room...

First of all, there are at least 3 hotels in the city called Hotel Reykjavik, so we had a hard time finding the place. Location is pretty good, easy walking distance to the main shopping and dining district. Room was okay... It was a loft room with a little spiral staircase to the sleeping area. Full of windows and skylights, which seemed cool at first, until we realized that in April in Iceland, it doesn't get dark until late, and then the sun comes up really early. Also faced an apartment building right across the courtyard, and no real curtains. Bed was not great. Walls were very thin, lots of noise from neighbors, voices and TVs. Wifi was pretty good, at least for a bit of email checking and googling. Breakfast was great, parking was easy (in a garage). Fine for a one-night stay (and using Best Western points), but would not be able to stay there more than one night due to noise.

My wife and I visited the land of fire and Ice in March 2015. Our stay was at the Best Western in downtown Reykjavik, which is also called the Hotel Reykjavik. The hotel is great, truly set up for tourists. The room was comfortable and well appointed and was a perfect place to rest after a full day of adventures in and around the southwest portion of Iceland. The breakfast compared to American standards, is different, but that doesn't mean it's not good. The food is truly fantastic and with it being free, allows you to fill up before you head out on your tours. In the evening, the weather can get bad, or at least did while we were there on a few occasions. That meant we were able to enjoy the happy hour they had at the hotel restaurant, that was turned into a small pub in the evening. The friends we made on this trip, had more than a few pints there, and then adjourned for a very good nights sleep. The hotel is not a redefinition of hotel luxury, and it's not meant to be either. It's a solid hotel, a great staff, particularly the front desk clerk named Einar, he really was fantastic and very knowledgeable! If your looking for a solid hotel to base your adventures in Iceland from, I can think of nothing better than the Best Western! Enjoy!

Room Tip: The best tip I can give on choosing a better room, is higher is better!

We stayed in the junior (loft) suite. There was plenty of space but the accomodations all felt a bit like the sale rack in K-mart.

The staff weren't helpful or friendly but I attributed that to the Nordic, cold and conserve energy/friendliness on people who deserve to have you waste some of your precious warm breath. I am not saying this because they were rude- I think it is just the way there. If you go to Iceland, you'll see what I mean.

I do not intend to discourage you from visiting. The country and the culture are so surreal that I would suggest spending a day or two there. We drove south and had a great time.

A satisfactory hotel stay in an acceptable location. Would return if back in Reykjavik again. Breakfast quite generous and desk clerks very helpful. Closest restaurant a bit expensive and limited menu.

I had booked this hotel online through an agent. I had seen on other reviews that people had been moved to a different hotel.

We arrived around 1pm and were told that we had to go to another hotel as they had overbooked. They did not even have the decency to contact us beforehand (they had phone number and email) to let us know that we would have to move. We had planned to spend the evening in Reykjavik but we were put in a taxi and driven for 30 mins to another hotel very far outside the city. Luckily the people at the other hotel were very nice but this did not make up for the inconvenience. We also had to rearrange all of out tours to pick us up and drop us off at a different hotel.

During one of our tours we met two other groups who had also been moved from the hotel that same weekend!

DO NOT book this hotel. I cannot understand with all the communication methods we have and booking systems how a hotel can still do this.

They are clearly unprofessional and do not know how to run a hotel.

This hotel is in a great location for exploring Reykjavik, a 2 min walk away from the main street and Bus Station. Loads of lovely restaurants and shops nearby. The rooms were basic but very clean, nice toiletries, tea/coffee. I stayed there for 3 nights and I must say, I slept really well. The TV was broken in our room but as the wifi was brilliant, we didn't miss it. The hotel offered to move us to another room but we decided against it as we were happy with what we had. Breakfast was tasty, hot food could be hooter but that is just a minor quibble, I enjoyed it overall and there was a good selection and good quality of food available. Staff were really friendly too.

Room Tip: Maybe a room at the back of the hotel would be quieter.
