“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We have just come back from a five day stay at the above hotel. It really is a very good hotel. The rooms are clean, well furnished with the usual comforts such as tea/coffee/kettle,small fridge, tv etc. Very conveniently located just five minutes walk to the main ishopping area. Staff were brilliant and very helpful. We booked our trips here in the UK but they can be booked at the hotel with no problem at all. Breakfast was plentiful (fresh bread/cheeses/cooked meats/fruit/bread for toast/fresh juices etc). The only one very slight moan is that the pizza restaurant that is attached to the hotel isn't the best. Nice atmosphere but the pizzas were not brilliant. However, having said that there are loads of places to eat in the town. First class place, just take plenty of money! Would definitely stay at this hotel again if we went back to Iceland.

Good hotel, helpful staff, and great location just 10mins walk from town centre, all for a reasonable price. Buffet breakfast with very good selection of cereals, fruit, cold meats and cheese, pastries and breads. Free wifi throughout hotel too. The rooms are average, but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a very good shower, with toiletries provided. There's an Italian restaurant attached which has excellent food with very generous sizes. All in all, excellent choice for the price.

I stayed at the Hotel Reykjavik on a family trip to Iceland. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful, bar the breakfast staff who didn't want to respond to anything without grunting or not acknowledging you.

The hotel was clean and warm - good really seeing as some nights it was -7 outside.

I stayed in a single room, again it was fine for just sleeping in. TV has few channels and for 2 days the BBC News 24 channel had no sound. The mattress could do with replacing - the bed was not comfy at all.

Good location - walking distance from the town and perfect for exploring.

Breakfast was continental style - nothing for Coeliacs though - I emailed the hotel twice to see if they would be able to provide anything... no reply. I took my own.

Positive - free wifi for the duration of your stay. Perfect.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms overlook a courtyard - even numbered overlook the road. That said even rooms have...

We spent 4 nights here beginning of November. When we arrived at the hotel we were told the hotel was fully booked so we were upgrated to the junior suite, of course we didnt mind this. Our room was located at the back of the hotel facing the courtyard so it was quite. The beds (located upstairs) were comfortable and we had a safety depoist box in our room along with a mini bar, although this was never stocked. On our second day after a long day doing horseriding, we returned to our room to discover that it hadnt been cleaned. None of our towels had been changed and the bed was not made. Reception couldnt give me a reason as to why our room hadnt been cleaned but he said he would sort it. We had a lady knock on our door 15 mins later with clean towels but that was all. This happened again on the 3rd day. Breakfast was good. a buffet style with plenty of tea and coffee. Great location about a ten minute walk from everything.

This hotel is situated in walking distance from the city center and the staff is very helpful. Reception service did work, but was a bit slowly with one person only most of the time. The single room was comfortable and big enough. Wifi did work well and it was included to the room price. The breakfast was also included and there was everything I need in the mornings.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We spent 8 nights here at the end of October 2012. After a 2 hour flight delay we finally arrived at our hotel at 3 in the morning. We had been booked into a family room (No 419) even though there was just the two of us. We crashed out but the next morning found our room to be a bit noisy from the traffic and asked if we could be moved. No trouble. We were moved to Room 423 at the back of the hotel. A smaller room but much quieter and very comfortable.
Our new room had no mini-bar and less storage but it was a lighter and more modern room. It had a bigger bathroom and the following facilities: room safe, wall mounted TV (with BBC Worldnews), tea/coffee making facilities, alarm clock, free wi-fi, hairdryer and a few complimentary toiletries.
One member of the staff was a bit dour but all the other were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay, especially a great older guy who sported a natty ponytail.
Room 419 was very large with a bed/settee to accommodate any children. It had a tiny bathroom for a family room. The furnishings were a bit old fashioned and tired but there was a lot of storage space and it had a mini-bar. Also, as it was an ‘attic room’, it had a slopping roof and you could not sit up properly in bed.
The hotel has secure parking. There is a computer in reception for public use which was free to use. Tour buses pick up from the hotel if you did not have a car and there is a very good selection of excursions available.
Breakfast is continental style buffet. Not a brilliant selection but quite adequate. Also, they did provide a basic breakfast before our very early (5.30am) airport departure, which was very welcome.
We went to the pizza restaurant next door (La Luna) one night. The food was good but rather expensive for a pizza house. We much preferred Harry’s Restaurant on the other side of the hotel. This was a proper (but very small) restaurant with a good menu, good service and reasonable prices for Iceland. Another good restaurant that we tried a couple of nights is Hofnin Restaurant at the harbour.
You will find that in Iceland the cold water is ‘spring water’ and is fine but the warm water is geo-thermal hot water and it always has that slight smell of sulphur (rotten egg smell). It is a bit off putting but one thing you have to get used to in Iceland. But, do not let that put you off from going there. It is a fascinating country and well worth visiting.

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed in this hotel x 4 nights recently as part of a Travel Department trip. Hotel is well located and only 15mins walk from city centre, so very central. We stayed on the 4th floor, facing the courtyard (so was quiet at night). The hotel corridors appear to be well maintained. I felt the room was not kept up to the same standard. Our daughter's bed was a sofa bed and our bed was up a spiral staircase to a mezzanine. The bed was very comfortable. But our towels were not changed or re-arranged during our stay, apart from one hand towel which I left on floor of bathroom. Our beds were made only once, but our daughter's bed was made each morning. Breakfast was a basic continental breakfast. Fruit: pieces of melon and orange still with skin/rind attached. I don't think this hotel was up to a 3* standard.
The bathroom was smallish and I agree with the positive comments re the shower. The hot water smelt of sulphur (or rotten eggs according to our daughter!)
I would recommend this hotel, but considered it basic.

Room Tip: Our room was on 4th floor, facing internal courtyard, so quieter based on other reviews
