“Good hotel, slightly peripheral of city center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Hotel was quite nice, updated, modern, good service, reliable wifi, free parking, adequate breakfast. Location might be too peripheral for some people to walk to city center, but parking is free after 5, so it shouldn't bee too big an issue to drive if necessary.

Booked this as part of Icelandair package. It's in a good location, easy walking to the good bars, restaurants and the centre / harbour.
The rooms were clean, functional, and a bit Spartan, which I know is the Icelandic style. Also very warm, we needed to open the window to cool down a bit. Sadly the window didn't open !!!!!
The construction site next door was a bit of a turn off, although we didn't hear any work while we were there, but others in our party did.. Breakfast was normal icelandic, and adequate. Do not expect cooked food, you will be disappointed.
Staff friendly and helpful.

I managed to get this hotel for a good price (although I had to go to a travel agent to get the better price over the internet search engines). Having looked at other reviews we decided to go for this one, and it was a good choice. Rooms were spacious (I think we were upgraded as a courtesy), bathroom was good and the beds very comfortable. The only slight issue was that our window was sealed, and throughout our stay in a number of restaurants/shops etc we always found it too hot inside. The room got warm at times, but not too the extent we couldn't sleep properly.

Breakfast had a good selection and I found the coffee to be very good (in fact all places we went had good coffee). I pre-booked excursions and the coaches turned up fine (note: the culture here is very punctual). Staff were helpful. Another minor point is that the bar here was open 1700 - 2200, and in the city some other places closed earlier than I would have expected. If you want to stay out late you really need to head towards the other end of the street, as there are more eating places there. There is a nearby casino which is open late, but not much else. There tends to be more shops closer to the hotel, which takes about 5 - 10 minutes to walk. Another 5 - 10 minutes and more eating places and bars can be found.

Overall our stay was enjoyable and the hotel was a welcoming place to come back to after lots of sightseeing. I would definitely return to this one.

Room Tip: An upgrade if you're offered it.

Everything looked nice, new and clean. Minimalist decor. Rooms were plenty spacious, beds were comfy (two twin beds were put together to make a double/king). Room darkening shades helped us adjust to 24 hours of daylight. We were traveling with our 1 year old and the staff set up a pack and play with a child size pillow and blanket for us before we arrived. Continental breakfast was included and there was a large dining area that had highchairs available. I'm not sure what the pastries at breakfast were called, but they had an apple filling that was so delicious. The staff was very friendly/helpful, answered many questions and allowed us a late checkout upon request when we overslept. We were able to walk to attractions, it's just a few blocks to the main road where tons of restaurants, bars and shops are located (not much on the hotel block itself). There is construction going on in the building behind the hotel, but it did not really cause any disturbance for us. Not sure why the cost of this hotel was so much less than others nearby (not that I'm complaining at all!). Not much of a view from the rooms, and the street the hotel is on could be a little nicer, but particularly due to the cost and cleanliness of the hotel, I would definitely recommend this one.

Booked this as part of Icelandair package. It's in a good location, easy walking to the good bars and restaurants. Rooms are functional but clean. The hard working guy at the reception desk( he seemed to be there for the whole visit,) was very knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast was pretty good.
Construction site was a little turn off, but I guess that will finish, as will the view.

My husband and I traveled to Iceland over Christmas and New Years. It was really neat to see different Christmas traditions and the fireworks on New Years Eve were like nothing we'd ever seen before.

The hotel was in a good location about 500 meters from downtown. Easily walkable even in the cold. There was also a parking lot next to the hotel for our car. The room was very comfortable and the under-floor heating made it very cozy. We were given an accessible room due to our long stay and it was a great size. Rooms also included a fridge which came in handy for picnic food for our excursions and drinks.

We rented a car so we didn't book any trips through the hotel. Even so, the staff was very helpful, gave us a map, and outlined routes for us.

The breakfast was pretty basic, but did the trick. A good selection of cold foods with hardboiled eggs, meats, and cheeses.

We had a lot of trips booked in during our stay in Reykavik so we didn't want to spend too much money on our accommodation as we wouldn't be there very much. We hadn't realised there would be building work happening so close to the hotel and this did disrupt our sleep as it would start dead on 8AM. However, the room we had was basic but very clean which was a bonus. The breakfast was very good though it did get very busy when people were getting ready for coach trip pick ups or getting ready to go to the airport. We didn't use the hotel bar but it looked comfortable enough. We had found a couple of bars that served real ale very near to Klettur so spent our evenings there.

The staff were very friendly/chatty which was good and happy to help with coach bookings, finding restaurants etc. The location worked for us as we could walk to everywhere we wanted to go for food, drink and sightseeing in the local area.

We would recommend this hotel for its low price, staff, cleanliness and location.
