“Clean, basic but good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Just returned from a short stay at this hotel, which was booked through a package deal with Icelandair, (best value we could find compared to organising individually)
The hotel reception is small, and we were checked in pretty swiftly. The room was clean, fresh and modern although a little small but still great for a short stay. The bathroom had a shower only, no bath, not a problem for us but could be a problem for some. There are no in room tea making facilities, but there was a small fridge.
The hotel only does food at breakfast time and is plentifull and good quality but limited to continental style food. The bar, open on an evening is small and cheerless and seems to be used more for internet access more than socialising.
The hotel location is not as great as seems to be implied by others, as it is quite a walk if you want to use the towns great selection of restaurants etc.
The staff at the hotel were all friendly and very helpfull.
Overall as a reasonably priced bed and breakfast base, it makes a decent choice.

This is a perfect hotel if you're looking for somewhere simple, clean and well located in the centre of Reykjavik. It's 2 mins to the centre of town, the rooms were clean and fresh, very simply decorated with everything you need. The service is the best thing about the place though, nothing was too much trouble for the efficient, friendly staff, from extra pillows, booking restaurants, booking and rearranging excursions - all done quickly and with a friendly face. Best customer service I've ever had, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone heading to Iceland.

Very friendly staff, there is no deny to that, at least the women and the guy in the morning is very friendly.

Stayed there last week for 3 nights, on one occasion, we left the hotel at around 9am, but then came back to the hotel to find our room was half cleaned. By that we had our towels and cups taken away, used shower product is gone, but they did not replace new ones for us.

I did ask for deluxe room like most suggested, with a seaview on 6th floor. The room is very spacious, but to my surprise, the whole hotel does not seem to have double bed (putting 2 single beds together side by side just don't qualify), and no bath tub anywhere.

On the other hand, very comfortable beds and warm duvets regardless. And the hotel and the whole country is very environmental concious. (I guess that can explain the bath tubs)

About 20minute walk to the very center of town, but most shops are 10 minutes down the road. And if you plan to go on tours, majority of companies (such as Reykjavik excursions) will pick you up.

Perhaps i was unlucky with the price i paid because i booked through a local travel agent. So given the value i paid for, i was expecting more.
So all in all, if you got a good price on this hotel, it's worth staying there.

Most guests are day-trippers who will join either Iceland or Reykjavik Excursions for day trips around the area. The lobby is somewhat small and basic but the staff there speak excellent English and are very friendly and helpful. They will even help to ring up the tour companies when they are late for pick-ups. The hotel offers free WIFI to everyone except that the WIFI receptions are only available in the lobby and the breakfast/bar area. There are two lifts that service the entire hotel. The breakfast area is bright and airy with a decent selection of bread, muesli, cold-cuts, boiled eggs, cheese, cold cucumber, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and milk.

The rooms are clean and have the "less is more" minimalist design. The rooms are a little small but nice and warm for those cold cold nights in Iceland, the heating is efficient. However, the bathrooms are somewhat small and the flimsy curtains around the shower will result in puddle of water building up around the bathroom.

The hotel is located a little bit off the town / harbour area, hence the dining options are rather limited around the area, unless guests are prepared to pay for cabs (which are really expensive in Iceland). The hotel is around 15 minutes walk to town, it's another 10-15 minutes to the harbour where the nice bars, cafes and restaurants are. Walking back from the restaurants can be difficult when it's so so so cold.

All in all, it's a small, cosy, friendly and comfortable hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the ground floor.

Hotel Klettur is roughly about a mile from Reyjakiv Harbour, and not far from the sea front, and in a quiet area. It is a modern hotel, very clean, warm, and with comfortable beds. Our bedroom was on the front of the hotel overlooking the apartments across the road, I think the rooms on the back especially the upper floors would have a better outlook, but we were mainly out during the day so it didn't matter. We did notice that the curtains were of the 'blackout' type, which of course would come into their own in the long days of summer. There was an abundance of hot water, as all the water in Reykjavik is geothermal, and the cold water is also fine for drinking, no need to buy bottled water. The breakfast was good with a good selection of food, continental type, with fruit, yoghurts, salad, bread etc to choose from. In the evening there was a small lounge bar where drinks, which included tea/coffee from a machine could be bought. There are several restaurants within a walking distance, Thai, italian and a pizza place. The bus station is also not far away. There was an early breakfast (4am) on our last day as our flight was 8 am from Keflavik airport, an hour's drive away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 5 nights (4 days) which enabled us to see more at a more leisurely pace than the usual 3 nights (2 days).

Room Tip: If you are spending some time in the hotel, go for a room on the upper floor at the back, otherwise...

The hotel may not be the plushest (a little Scandinavian minimalist style) however but it's the friendliest I have ever stayed in. Rooms are comfortable and cosy (cleaned daily). Breakfast is again Scandinavian/European buffet style, it was always fresh and good quality. The location is great for the city centre and at most 20 minutes walk to some of the best food and night life I've had (it's also easy to find just in case you indulge in too much Icelandic schnapps!). The staff cannot do enough for you, if you need anything, just ask and they go over and above to help you out. Quite simply I felt comfortable and well looked after and would recommend to all!

This is a good basic hotel close to the main sights of Reykjavik. New and clean, it does what it says on the tin but doesn't offer any frills. The free breakfast is a typical European spread- boiled eggs, cucumber, cereal, cheese, herrings however the less adventurous can happily munch on the lovely toast with a slathering of Icelandic butter! I must say I didn't find the staff overly friendly apart from a bar man one night. The blond guy on reception wasnt rude but pretty nonchalant about everything. We rented a car and asked it was okay to park our car in the car park outside to which he nodded however we were shouted at by the manager the next day as apparently it's for deliveries only. I will say that the shower is great and I can't fault the basics of the room. You can only get wifi in the bar (located under reception, on the ground floor) but it's a lovely chilled place to sit in an evening, planning your adventure for the next day with a beer and a handful of peanuts!
