We cannot say enough good things about our time with Chris in Iceland.
Before we started our tour, Chris was responsive, polite, and very thorough dealing with me, my mom, and my brother. He answered all our questions, gave thoughtful responses, and never got frustrated with questions from multiple people, etc.
Chris arrived at our hotel promptly to pick us up and was completely prepared for four multi-day excursion into Iceland - he even arranged to rent us sleeping bags so that we didn't have to bring them with us overseas. He was also really great about picking up food that we wanted to eat and really accommodating in dealing with allergy issues, etc. His vehicle was super comfortable, well-equipped, and had lots of good amenities - charging outlets for camera batteries, etc. Don't expect a Rolls Royce kind of vehicle, but once you've seen some the terrain that Chris goes through, you wouldn't want anything other than what he has!
The tour itself was great - Chris walked a fine line between a tour for me (as the photographer) and a tour for my mother and brother, who are not "Photographers" but who are interested in sightseeing, etc. All three of us were happy, and Chris was more than able to adjust the tour based on things we wanted to do, etc. Our weather was really not awesome, but Chris did a magnificent job dealing with the weather and getting us into places when the weather was as good as it could be. We saw so many of the major sights of Iceland and also got a great taste of slightly less touristy places. All of us would highly recommend taking at least three days (four or five if you can!) on tour with Chris.
There is really nothing bad we can say about the tour aside from the fact that it was quite pricey... But when you look at the individual service, the responsiveness of Chris, and the experience that we had, it was so worth it. Chris was friendly on the trip, never made us feel like we were taking too long somewhere, and never rushed us, even when it meant that he got home after the tour very late thanks to an amazing waterfall stop. He also splurged for hostel accommodation on our first night, when the weather was just awful. It was a nice touch.
Gear was reasonably good for camping, though two of our three tents did leak (we didn't have the usual tents that Chris normally uses, so this is not likely to be a problem for you). We were warm, well-fed with an amazing choice of breakfast/lunch foods for being on a 'camping' trip, and constantly entertained by Chris' sense of humour, knowledge about the area, and stories of the sagas of Iceland.
Sure, you can see parts of Iceland for less money, but guaranteed you won't have as much fun, see as many of the more hidden locations, or see as much of Iceland in the time that you have. When I come back to Iceland, Chris will be the first person I contact!
