“Hotel Borg - Old Fashioned Style, New Fashioned Comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The night we spent at Hotel Borg was very special - helped by the beauty of the hotel, which is authentically Art Deco throughout. The staff, too, were very helpful. The restaurant was also excellent - highly recommended after a hard week of driving throughout Iceland. Great food and decent wine list.
Parking is the one thing you need to consider, however - there is no parking in the hotel and you need to find street parking, which is difficult before 6pm in central Reykjavik. My advice would be that if you are wandering around Reykjavik during the day, park under the Harpa Concert Hall then move your car to the Borg. Otherwise, if you want to experience the night life, the hotel is very well situated.
You can have washing done at the hotel - but there is a Laundry Cafe around the corner, which is very good.

I'd read a bit about some noise here, and I brought along my earplugs, but this was insane. As someone had suggested, I asked for a 4th floor room in the back of the hotel - as quiet as possible. I got there on a Saturday night and the noise was deafening until 5 AM. The bass was so intense that my whole little room reverberated. That's not noise...that's trying to sleep in a very expensive disco. I will say that during the week it was fairly quiet, so if you're in town on a week day it's worth considering.

One concierge, who was on during the nights, was absolutely wonderful. I was on my own and mesmerized by Iceland, and he chatted with me and gave me suggestions and was just generally helpful and pleasant. Everyone else...well, I just don't get it. Totally blase. It was just very clear that providing assistance wasn't high on their priority list. I gave the Borg 3 stars because the experience averaged out to about 3, even though it ranged from 1 to 5, depending on the issue and individual.

My room was tiny but well appointed and I was happy with that as well as the location.

Feel free to check my trip report for more detail.

Room Tip: Only stay here during the week if noise bothers you. There's really no place to hide from the no...

Great service. Room not clean upon checkin, offered upgrade, and put bottle of champagne in room upon return from the day as an apology. Superbly helpful at all times of day.

Perfect perfect perfect location. Walk anywhere in the city. Yes noisy but higher floors fine. Take a Benadryl or just party with everyone else.

Plenty of street parking with unlimited meters. Hours 10-6 weekday, 10-4 sat. Says limit two hours but can pay for whole day on one ticket. Can use credit card at muni meters.

This is a very nice boutique hotel located in one of the best part of town. It's located at the beautiful Austurvollur square, next to the Icelandic parliament building and the cathedral. From there most of the tourist attractions, restaurants, and shopping are within walking distance. The hotel itself is stylish and comfortable. The rooms are on the smaller side but that is usually the case in most of Europe. The hotel is relatively expensive; again, everything in Iceland is relatively expensive. Overall we were quite satisfied with our stay. The staff/ concierge desk were friendly and very helpful.

Staff and decor wonderful. However do not accept a room whose number ends in -01-04. Faces a very late night bar. You cannot sleep at all. What a shame that they make no allowance. Fri and sat just awful.

Room Tip: No room ending in -01-04

A bit noisy in the weekend due to that. The hotel offers a really good service and has a high standing, but being surrounded by bars will make it more difficult for you to sleep during the weekend. I haven't tried the restaurant, but the breakfasts were good.
