My partner and I booked a morning ride with this company based on its Tripadvisor ratings and were not disapointed. He had ridden a horse only once or twice, and I had a bit more experience, but we both enjoyed it. We used the GPS co-ordinates given on the website to drive there in our rental car, it is pretty easy to find, just look out for the right street sign as you get close instead of relying entirely on the GPS like us, and parking at the neighbours farm and getting directed around the corner by a local farmer...
We were the only 2 riding, and Begga gave us very detailed instructions, along with a nice hot coffee (it was a typical Iceland day - cold, windy, cloudy and spots of rain), before we geared up with overtrousers, gloves and helmets. We wore our own rainjackets as I didn't fancy being a fluoro tourist from head to tail, but had to settle with the fluoro overtrousers as it was starting to rain a little. Then we met our steeds, furry tiny Icelandic horses, and groomed them while Begga got the riding gear on. We had a brief ride around the yard to make sure we weren't complete idiots and could stop, then lead them out to the road. It was cool riding around the lava fields, although it's not exactly out in the wild - you cross under a fairly main road. But the scenery was Icelandic and volcanic, and I really enjoyed the Tolt! So different to riding any other horse. It was great.
I would recommend wearing warm clothes at this time of year - I wore thermal underwear and was grateful! Other than that we just wore walking shoes and they were fine. There were lockers to lock your bag in, I took my camera, but didn't use it apart from in the yards, Begga took photos and emailed us a few days later.
All in all, it was fun, where else can you tolt along amongst the lavafields! I would love to go back to Iceland and take a longer trip with Begga and her horses!
