“Great location, staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

We stayed here for one night at the end of September. The hotel is perfectly situated – right downtown, in the middle of the hustle and bustle, with everything within walking distance: shops, cafes, restaurants, harbour/marina, the Harpa and shoreline walk, Culture House, City Hall, etc.

The hotel is clean and modern, boutique-ish. Our room was on the top floor (6th), with a nice view of Austurvöllur Square and the Parliament House. There’s a small dining area where a delicious breakfast is served. On the Saturday night we were there, it was full of locals and tourists having drinks.

There’s a small elevator that’s a little quirky – you just have to make sure the second door is closed properly, or it won’t operate – no big deal.

The staff here is amazing - everyone was so friendly and helpful, from the servers at breakfast to the general manager who apologized for not responding within 24hrs to our email request (he included breakfast with our stay). Dodi especially deserves a special mention – he walked with my husband to show where to park the car for free, helped us with our luggage, showed us how to use the elevator, pointed out places on the map, and gave us great suggestions on where to eat (we wanted Italian or Indian that night). It really made for such a pleasant stay!

We were attracted by the location in the middle of the city, with easy transportation from the airport. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff, Farouk in particular, should get 5 stars for being accommodating. We arrived hours before check-in. He went out of his way to get our room ready. He cheerfully made all reservations for us, suggested restaurants, drew us walking maps, etc. The breakfast which is an extra, was quality and given the low price of the rooms, not a problem.
Would strongly recommend this to anyone staying a short while in Iceland.

Room Tip: Since Reykjavik is a partying city, I would suggest requesting a room in the back of the hotel on an...

I recently stayed in this hotel for two nights. It is perfectly located right in the middle of the main walking street in Reykjavik, which is great encouragement to get out and walk around to see the town. The hotel staff were very warm and friendly, and the breakfast is probably the best value meal you can get in town. I will definitely be staying here again if I return.

We were so lucky finding this hotel. It is located in the old part of the city - very central to the restaurants, bars and attractions - everywhere is easily reached on foot from here. The staff couldn't do enough to help make our stay better. We had opted to just book the room and decide on where to eat breakfast on a daily basis - so didn't include the breakfast in our booking. On our first morning we decided to sample the hotel breakfast and we were so impressed with it we returned every morning. Very good value with an excellent selection, good coffee etc, all at a set price so you can eat as much as you like. In the evenings the room isa used as a bar which hums with friendly folk - good selection of beers from around the world.
Our room was beautifully decorated, with modern facilities all working to a high standard. The furniture and fabrics were lovely - not like the bog standard hotel room - but furnished with taste and flair.
City Center Hotel had everything we needed - and more...!

Room Tip: We asked for a room with a view and were given a lovely room on the 5th floor with a balcony and a v...

I have recently spent an extraordinary week in the City Centre Hotel. The hotel's location is probably the best in Reykjavik as you are right in the city centre with all its charming restaurants and bars and the vibrant night life over the weekends is right on your doorstep. The hotel rooms are modern and luxurious and the friendliness of staff is unequalled. Hotel staff advised me on tourist activities and arranged all bookings and pick ups from the hotel on my behalf. This made live so easy and I could simply enjoy everything Iceland has to offer.

I found the ambiance as well as the choice and quality of the food at the breakfast bar to be something special. This same breakfast bar transforms into the well known Micro Bar at night time. This is a great place for some Icelandic beer tasting with a beer expert to provide guidance. This multifunctional area gives the hotel a very warm and lively feel especially in the mornings and evenings.

Stay in the City Centre Hotel and you are guaranteed your time in Iceland will be exceptional.

The location is great, on the western end of the main street, and there's no excuse for not getting out of the hotel at night, even after a long day of driving and walking to the major sights outside of Reykjavik. These streets in the "old" part of Reykjavik have a lot of charm and the hotel is well located to explore them. The hotel itself is cute, with little details that reflect well the quirkiness of this city. The staff is very helpful, and will be happy to make calls for you for car rental reservations or other things. All this said, the reason I did not give it a "higher score" is because their rooms are very small (we got a room on the 2nd floor, it's so tiny there's no place for a chair). Our room has a bed, a desk, but hardly room for our suitcase (and we had just 1), or a chair to sit down. The size of the bathroom is OK. As some other reviewers have indicated, the street is very noisy at night (from 10PM on). For me it was not a problem since I just slept through the noise, but I can understand that for many, this will be a problem. Breakfast is not included in the price, and I find this rather a value turn-off. You pay 10 Euros for a "all you can eat buffet", which is expensive when the bill adds up at the end. While it would still be "good value" as compared to the option of eating outside, it's still is a turn-off considering the price of the room and the fact that some hotels in the areas include breakfast in their price. All in all, the experience with the hotel was positive, but I would look for competitive offers with other hotels in the same area next time.

My Wife and I recently came back from our trip to Iceland and we had a wonderful time. Reykjavik was our first stop and I am very happy that we selected City Center Hotel as our place to stay. We landed at 7:00 am local time and the weather was horrible (heavy rain and winds), and my wife was not feeling well from the flight. We arrived at the hotel around 8:15 and I knew checking in would be a long shot given the early hour, but I thought I would at least try. That's when we met Anna for the first time. I asked her if our room was ready because my wife really needed to get some rest to help her feel better and Anna said the room was not ready, but she asked housekeeping if they could put a priority on cleaning the room, and they did. Within 30-40 minutes, our room was ready and it was spotless. My wife was able to sleep for a few hours and when she woke up, she was feeling better.

The hotel itself is very nice and it's in a great location! We never used the car to get around the city as the hotel is within walking distance to so many great sights, such as the harbor, the opera house, museums, shopping, etc. It really is centrally located and Anna was so good about giving us directions, maps, and suggestions for places to go and things to do.

We had two stays at the hotel. One on the front end of our trip and the other on the back end before returning home. During our first stay we were in room 602 and it was a very nice room. The second stay we were in room 503 and it also was a nice room. It was a bit smaller in size than 602, but both were very clean and very comfortable.

We did frequent the Micro Bar, which is part of the building and they do have a great selection of beer. I was enjoying the Gaedengur IPA and Pale Ale on tap. We were there 2 times and on both visits, we had a nice time talking with the bartenders; one of which was the brewer. Being a novice homebrewer myself, I really enjoyed talking with him and learning a few tricks of the trade.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and the next time we are in Reykjavik, we would stay here again. I've said it, and others have as well, the staff here are great and will do anything they can to help. Each time we came into the hotel Anna was always there to greet us with a smile and she made us feel so welcome. She is so great at what she does and you can see that she genuinely enjoys interacting with the hotel guests. She and the rest of the staff made a our stay great, and we were so appreciative for all they did to get us into the room so early in the morning. Thank you Anna and the entire team at City Center Hotel for a wonderful stay!
