“Glacier at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We did some nice tours during our stay in Iceland but the snowmobile tour on the Langjökull glacier with the Mountaineers of Iceland was an outstanding experience.
Being picked up by an XXL-truck was a tremendous start, especially for my teenage kids.. ;-)
Our guide was super nice, telling us old Icelandic Sagas and fairytales on our way to the glacier. We got all the necessary equipment and off we went with the snowmobiles - it was just great!
Grade A - recommendation!

“Fantastic way of experiencing Iceland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We only had three days in Iceland and wanted to make the most out of them. We booked a day tour with the mountaineers which got us to an old volcano, a glacier where we did some snowmobile riding, the continental divide and the ting, the golden waterfall, the geysirs etc.

Biggi our tour-guide was great in the way of explaining Icelandic history, the natural sights and also todays lifestyle. He is an outdoor-fanatic who seemed to love his job - which made it very enjoyable to be shown around by him.

We got back to Reykjavic in the early evening with the feeling that we really saw a massive amount of the south-western part of the island and with lots of good tips on what to do on the next day, where to have some beers etc.

Sure, its not cheap. But if you dont have a lot of time its the best thing you can do. Without a tourguide and a fantastic super-jeep, you would not be able to see as many things, even if you took a few days for it.

Even though the weather wasnt brilliant (small snow-storm on the glacier) it was an unforgettable experience I can recommend to anyone.

“very rainy but very happy with the mountaineers!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We only wanted to have just a few free days in Iceland - exploring it by a very small car on safe roads. But then: the Mountaineers were recommended to us and finally: we have not regretted to invest a big part of our holiday budget: XXL-Truck picks you up at the hotel (all other tourists on the street, waiting for their "normal" bus/coach were looking a bit enviously to the car) - it's warm, it's funny, guides are open minded and we had much fun. The tourist stations like pingvellir, geysir and golden waterfall we wouldn't need to see to be happy - it is much more faszinating to see how the car crossed a huge boulder field, a river and all those mountains ... absolutely WOW - we wished we would have more time for this part of the trip!

And the other highlight of the tour: Driving the snow mobiles. Really something special - it is cold and wet but you are alone there on the fjökul, the air is fantastic (even if it rains) and you would like to stay there, lying in the snow ...
Our guide Biggy had a lot of interesting information about history of Iceland, showed us a big Energy plant and described it very well ... so we learned a lot at this trip but had also so much fun with the car (Biggy has fun too :-)
Thanks @Mountaineers for the professional & very comfortable organization but also the easy booking of the trip - we loved it and will save this day in our mind!

“A wonderful day of touring!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

This is our second tour with Mountaineers of Iceland and once again, we must write a raving review! We did a private tour to the Langjokull Glacier to enjoy a snowmobile ride and dog sledding, along with stops at the beautiful Barnafoss waterfalls and Deildartunguhver (Europe's most powerful hot spring!) Our guide, Hjölli, was a delight and made sure we enjoyed every moment! It was the most spectacular day and we highly recommend Mountaineers of Iceland to arrange it all! Eydis in the front office, was the most patient and understanding person I ever met. She answered all my questions (and I asked many! :-) and helped me plan the perfect day, down to every single detail involved. It was a pure pleasure communicating with her each day via email, until we completed all the plans for our tour! Because of her genuine concern and attention to all my inquiries, the perfect tour was organized for us! :-) Hope to be lucky enough to enjoy another tour with Mountaineers one day if we ever travel to Iceland again! You will be so happy you chose Mountaineers of Iceland as well! :-)

“Amazing adventures & amazing guides!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

Five of us went to Iceland in March of 2013 for the first time. We tried to book a few tours ahead of time, and the Golden Circle tour with Mountaineers of Iceland was one of them. We loved our tour and tour guide, Sven, so much we booked the south coast tour with him also. On the golden circle tour we stopped several places along the way, we even saw some icelandic horses along a fence and he stopped for us to take pictures. Sven and the tour were accommodating to our individual needs (there were 5 energetic picture taking girls in our group) and the super jeeps allowed us to go off the beaten path. Highly recommended tour!! On the south coast tour we went off-roading in the super jeeps through the river valley where the glacier melted off the volcano that erupted in 2010. We also stopped and walked along the beach and several waterfalls. Don't miss this tour group!!!!
