My wife and I booked two tours with Season Tours - the dinner tour and then the Westman Islands. Both were fantastic, I mean really, really good. However, I'm going to rave about the dinner tour because it was not so much a tour but going to your friends house, that you have known well, for dinner. Sure at first we thought what are we going to talk about, what if there are dreaded silent moments. Well, trash those thoughts as Tyffi is not only a great chef but an awesome guy. We started at one from our hotel and straight away the three of us went on a tour of the city. We got to know the history and layout, which is handy after only being there one day, and then we started to hit the foodie places - liquor store, fishmonger and the best cheese shop in Iceland run by a hilarious Scotswoman...yes what are the odds! Anyway, after touring and shopping, we headed to Tyffi's house to chat, eat and generally hang out as Tyffi worked his magic. To say it was a feast does not do it justice. While all the food in Iceland may not be everyone's cup of tea, I can be a bit more adventurous and try everything. Would I stock up on some of the items, no, but did I enjoy trying then, for sure. Overall, 95% of the food was stellar. It was all high quality but I just mean some items won't be on my shopping list, such as whale blubber :) The rest though...lobster, cod, lamb, smoked trout, herring....to die for. By the time it was all said and done, it was evening, and we were beyond full. It was a bit sad to have it end but we know we'll be back. So, my conclusion, if you want an experience that you'll remember not just because of the food but because you were able to really get to know someone local and share in something that is really quite personal, you must do this.
