“A must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

A primal thundering waterfall you can approach within a few metres. A very humbling experience. The location is swarming with tourists in the summer, but we have visited during November one year and we were the only visitors there. The route down the slope to the waterfall was not far, but may prove a bit of a trek for those who have trouble walking. The final rock ledge has no paved access and if you want to mount this you will have to scramble up the rock edge (not really a requirement to experience Gulfoss, but nice to do).

Lots of parking up top, cafe, and a viewing platform too. You should really try and visit.

“A powerful waterfall”

Well set out and good access. The most stunning waterfall I have ever seen. No free wifi at the cafe.

“Oh WoW ! How stunning was this...!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We hired a car to visit this truly magnificent natural beauty spot about 45 mins outside of Reykjavik. This can also be discovered via a Golden Circle tour.
We arrived early afternoon with the weather being cold and quite windy ( as is usual for open areas in Iceland).
Ample parking at the top viewing area and lower down however the cafe can be reached more easily via the top car park.
You can get down to the lower viewing area via steps so if mobility is an issue drive round if possible.
View of the waterfall are stunning from either level but be prepared for a LOT of spray. Ideally waterproof outwear and be careful with your camera.
Its possible to get very close to the edge of the top waterfall as Gullfoss has two levels and subsequently get drenched if the wind is in the wrong direction.
None of this detracts from seeing a magnificent natural wonder that rightfully earns the name of miniature Niagra Falls.
There are amenities provided in the cafe/shop which has a large seating area though no direct view of the waterfall as far as we could see.
Foods available included soups sandwiches, paninis, cakes, pastries all at high prices.
Drinks included alcoholic beers etc again with a high price tag.
We opted for a tea, a can of local beer, a slice of cake and a panini which came to almost £20.00!
Shop was large and sold everything from a reindeer skin to a pair of woolen socks.
I would definitely recommend seeing the Gullfoss as its very majestic in a country with many waterfalls.

“A must see.”

A long trip to see, but worth it as a raging torrent of a river with a beautiful waterfall and a Glacier in the distance.
