“Good value and cosy atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2012

Balkanika is a small cosy restaurant with friendly staff. The food was very good and also reasonably priced. We had a lamb and vegetable hot pot which was lovely-though for some maybe not over huge. But for us it meant we had room for a desert which was good. Service was largely good but we had to keep requesting a jug of water (strange in Iceland where water is provided automatically everywhere!). This restaurant also does take away food which can interrupt the service.

“Good value food with a Bulgarian twist”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

A great little find, tucked away just off the main shopping street. The ambience is nice and the owner is lovely, very friendly and explained everything.

The food is good value - we had kavarma, a lamb stew cooked in a traditional pot, which was piping hot and very tasty, accompanied by flat bread to tear and share. I followed mine with a piece of chocolate cake and cream and hubby with a baklava, both very nice.

With drinks, the meal came to £36 for the two of us - very good value for Reykjavik!

“Beware”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2011

Pricing seemed to be reasonable - appeared to be total waste of money. We dined in four persons; every single one reported the dish to taste like petrol.

The ingredients seemed to be around in the right level, but the taste was just terrible. Waitress seemed not to be too happy with such a crowd (four people), so I strongly recommend to reconsider when popping in.
