“Cosy guesthouse with great owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

We had a great stay in Butterfly Guesthouse after we had had an accident in the Icelandic hills. The room was nice, with a bathroom down the corridor. There was a good ktchen, which was great because we could not venture out too much. But the best part of the guesthouse was the presence of Jon and his family during day who helped us out so much. If you are not interested in staying in a standard hotel but are looking for a more Icelandic experience, try the butterfly!

We stayed in one of the guesthouse's self-catering apartments. While a little on the 'cosy' side, it was far more comfortable than any hotel room and meant we could really relax during our stay in Reykjavik.

Excellent location - quiet residential street, but just minutes from all the action in town.

Kitchen was well equipped, and the flat had a TV and DVD player, as well as a great balcony. Would have liked a better shower, but that's a very minor point.

We stayed at the Butterfly for 2 nights at the beginning and end of our honeymoon trip around Iceland. We could not have been happier with our choice. Jon was wonderfully helpful and nice while arranging our visit via email. When we arrived, his son gave us a warm welcome, showed us around, and answered all of our questions. We had room #4 the first night. It was a great room, and though we were expecting a shared bathroom, it looks like they built a tiny, but functional shower and toilet into the actual bedroom. That was a very nice surprise! The Butterfly location could not be more perfect. We were able to walk to everything, and there are a huge number of restaurant/bar options within an easy walking distance. We enjoyed the free & easy parking also. The second night (at the end of our trip), Jon was very sweet and gave us the top floor apartment (#8) as a honeymoon bonus. We really appreciated the gesture, and loved the extra space. You could tell that Jon & his family have put a lot of effort, elbow grease, and thought into making the Butterfly comfortable for their guests. There were nice touches everywhere. Thank you Jon, for our 2 lovely stays, and we will definitely visit again the next time we venture to Iceland!

We spent three nights in one of the apartments at the Butterfly Guesthouse. Jon gave great details on how to access the guesthouse using the Flybus from the airport when we emailed months before to make the booking. On arrival, he was very welcoming and told us where we could buy food (just around the corner). When we collected our rental car the following day, we could park (for free) just outside. Easy to walk around Reykjavik and very easy to drive around Iceland. As for the guesthouse, the rooms were comfortably furnished, with a well fitted out cooking area. Room was well sized for the two of us. Only one complaint - the TV didn't work although probably being in Icelandic only, we wouldn't have watched it.

Room Tip: We had an apartment on the top floor. Two flights of stairs, but we wanted an ensuite. Not all rooms...

Dear Jon,
This is Paola and Ale from Palermo, Italy
We were at yours back in August 2011, but we didn't get round setting up a tripadvisor account till now.
Our first review is for your lovely family business. Your three children were amazingly helpful, one even went as far as picking us up at the coach station in the middle of the night, without us asking.

We booked while still in London on 2nd Aug and as we could feel the warmth that radiates through your B and B place even from a PC screen. Wise choice it was!!! We used Butterfly as our base in Reykjavik as Ranargata is just a few steps away from all the big sights in town. We then shot off into the countryside. It's the little things that count...you gave us a blanket for our Iceland road trip, which we treasured on the way.

You gave us directions as to what to do or see in the wilderness and showed us pics of all those amazing bays, glaciers and waterfalls. We kept talking about your kindness all round Iceland and in the second section of our trip in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

We felt we ought to drop you a line to thank you for the amazing time you gave us.

You deserve to be the No. 1 place in the capital. You'll get there, no doubt.

Much Love.

Big hug from the other end of Europe,
Paola and Ale
