“Good for a few nights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

These studios were modern, clean and very good value for money. It was perfect for a 3 night stay. They even had basic sugar, salt, oil and tea bags in the kitchenette which was very much appreciated. Even though the reception was never manned, we didn't have any problems and in self-catering accommodation I don't expect a manned reception anyway.

The location was perfect; just round the corner from the main shopping street, but in a quiet area. There was also excellent free parking and always spaces right at the front door.

Most importantly, the bed was very comfortable.

Don't be put off by the eggy smell that comes from the bathroom; that's not the drains, it's the geothermally heated water. We stayed in 4 different places in Iceland and it was all the same. You get used to it.

I suppose the only negative aspect was that the apartments were quite sterile, and did get quite hot unless you opened a window.

Easy to get to by Flybus, close to the center and Hallgrímskirkja, and the nearest geothermal pool/spa is just a 5 minute walk away - all ace points in my book. We were two couples staying in the apartment and it seemed just perfect. Two bedrooms with attached bathroom, totally clean, easy to navigate. And as a bonus, the host/owner speaks great English. Communications before and after the booking were totally easy to follow.
A thumbs up!

Maybe I'm not as fussy as other travellers. The building work didn't affect me at all(maybe because I've always lived in big cities), the bed was very comfortable and cooking facilities in a city as expensive as Reykjavik priceless. Excellent value for money I thoroughly recommend it.

We were booked into a top of the line (we thought) apartment in Laugavegur. There was apparently an overbooking and when we arrived there was a note to move up the road to Einholt.
The owner DID supply a taxi.
The apartment was on the third floor up dirty concrete stairs with no proper lighting. There were power points hanging out of the wall. In the 2 bedroom apartment itself we found the dishes and cutlery had not been washed by the previous occupants.
There was a filthy dishcloth in the sink.
The lounge was dirty.
The room stank and we had to open a window so we could breathe.

There may be better class rooms in Einholt in a newer section of the building but these seemed to be only studios. It seems that these owners regularly overbook as there was another couple at Einholt who were being moved to a THIRD location. They were certainly not happy.

The location is very ordinary and is bounded by two building sites.
After making a serious complaint we were moved back to the very nice apartment we had actually booked in Laugavegur.
I must say that the owners were very responsive and helpful but the apartment we were put in was disgusting and it was very inconvenient even though we were given 50% discount on the night.

Room Tip: Do not book a room in Einholt. Be prepared to be moved to another building which it seems happens fa...

We stayed here for 1 night at the very start of our self drive tour around Iceland. We arrived late due to a delay picking up our car at the airport and were a bit dubious about the unmanned reception. But we managed to get in to the apartment fine and it was lovely and warm. It was slightly on the small side, but we had an infant cot for our 5 month old so that took up a bit of floor space. The kitchenette was very basic - we didn't use it but I'm sure it would have been fine. We didn't really explore Reykjavik but it seemed to be in a central location. The apartment was clean and comfy and we had a good nights sleep!

Einholt Apartments is one property of a few different apartment style hotels. My friends and I booked this hotel for our trip to Rekjavik because we heard that the rooms were spacious and that it was located only a short distance from the city center.

We arrived earlier than the check-in time and the hotel staff was very accommodating. They actually said for a group of 4 people they had a room that would be ready in 20 minutes that was more spacious and closer to the city center. They sent a cab that had been pre-paid for to take us to the new location (Laugavegur Apartments). Upon our arrival the key to our room was waiting and there was a cleaning staff there to help us get settled.

We had a one bedroom apartment that had a full kitchen and living room. The bedroom had 2 twin size beds and then we had an additional twin size bed and a full size pull out couch in the living room. There is a washer/dryer on site and there were always clean towels at our disposal.

There isn't a lobby staff, but the phone in the lobby had a number we could call to be connected to Einholt Apartment staff members, who were always willing to help.

We couldn't have asked for a better location at Laugavegur Apartments. We were a 2 minute walk from the taxi station and bus depot and only a 5 minute walk to the heart of the city.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Laugaegur Apartments. The price was right, the room was clean and the staff was friendly and made themselves accessible to answer questions and help us out when needed.

We stayed for 4 nights at this apartment. At first we thought the idea of "picking up your keys left at the unmaned reception" idea was a bit strange, but after staying in Iceland for a whole week in 3 different apartments, I realised this is the trend and a good way to keep the cost down.

Our apartment was in the basement area, but visiting Iceland in the winter time, basement or not doesn't really matter, you don't get to see much of the sun anyway. The room/apartment was simple and clean, the kitchen has everything we need to cook something simple.

It is good value and the location is close enough to town centre, about 10 minutes walk. And quite nice and handy that it offers free on-street parking if you decided to hire a car.

There's free wifi with good reception, also a computer is available at the reception area if you don't have any laptops. When we first arrived the wifi didn't seem to work on our floor, so I used the free phone at the reception to call, someone picked it up straight away and showed me instruction to reset the router, a bit of a hassle but it worked nicely at the end, always good to know that there's always someone at the other end if you need them.
