“Whale and Puffin Menu!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We ate here on our last night in Iceland. We had the Whale and Puffin menus which were delicious. The service was attentive. Yes it is expensive but it was an experience. Very enjoyable!

“Pricey, but nicey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

We decided to visit this restaurant during our week there. Having spoken to others we found the same as they did in as much as the food was very good, but the service wasn't so good; a two course meal and a couple of drinks totalling about £70 or approximately 107USD.

With a varied menu i opted for a Beef Tenderloin Steak which was cooked to my satisfaction (almost), the wife decided to have Lemon marinated Chicken which was cooked beautifully. Both were served on a bed of roasted vegetables accompanied by a jacket potato. For dessert we both had the Warm Chocolate Pudding which was delicious.

It was the service side that needs addressing. Once we had been shown to our seat, and been given menus to browse it took quite a while for the staff to take the order, and it wasn't very busy. The food was served in an acceptable amount of time and didn't give us cause to complain. This was probably a good thing as a diner behind did complain about something and you got the impression that the staff didn't take too kindly to such actions...almost to the point of intimidating the customer to reconsider.

“A little pricey but nice food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

This is not a cheap place to eat but the food was good. They have a 3 course Whale menu that was 6950 isk (approx £35) if you want to try something different. The service was good and overall we had a good experience.

“The most amazing steak ever”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013 via mobile

I wish we could have done justice to this place but we were in a rush. We opted for the 3 course fixed price menu. A delectable lobster soup, beef tenderloin and melt in the middle chocolate pudding. The beef was to die for and I'm so glad we managed to eat it. Unfortunately we had to leave some of the dessert as we had to rush off for a Northern Lights trip. This wasn't the Hereford's fault and all three courses were served promptly. We loved the order card system as this meant you got exactly what you ordered. Yes the staff could probably be more engaging but they weren't uncivil and anyway it's the food and the ambience which matter. Both were great.

“Steak house”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

The Hereford steak house had special menus serving Whale or puffin, I like to try most things, so we thought we'd give it a chance. It does'nt appear too welcoming from outside but when inside it has a great feel. We did'nt go for the whale or puffin as it happens but simply ordered tenderloin of beef surf and turf. The staff were very good and refilled our beer pretty promptly. The steaks were tasty but not at all tender, I declined a chocolate cake dessert only because it was nearly 2000isk (£9.00). All in all a pretty average eatery.
