“A romantic weekend in Keflavík”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We were very pleased with our one night in Hotel Keilir. Our room was nice and tidy, the service was personal and great, and the price was good. Included was excellent continental breakfast, and the hotel arranged a wonderful sushi dinner.

The best thing is the position of the Hotel, it lies right at the centrum of the town of Keflavík, right next to the cinema, with a plenty of restaurants and shops near by.

Even though it was not the place we planned on staying they wore very kind and friendly in taking us in after the original place turned out to be overbooked and dropped us off at their place.

Very friendly family hotel with a nice view over the ocean from the back rooms.

Due a big delay with our flight (we spent a night at the airport) we couldn't reach the hotel in time, in fact we arrive the day after.
We went straight to the hotel asking not to pay for the room we dind't use as we gave them our credit card details. Even if the hotel wasn't full, after a few monts (3 or 4) they withdrew money form our account!!!
I try to contact them by mail in order to ask why they got the money after a so long time but have been very rude!

When you arrived you find the labels of Excellence from tripadvisor...

It's true if you accept a new definition of excellence:

You have to wait (about 15 minutes) someone came to the hotel. The book-keeper is not interested to help you. Just block the front desk for office work and to tell that you should sit and wait someone shows up in 5 minutes (which means in Iceland 15 minutes)

You should know that there is no additional service like to borrow towels to see Blue Lagoon. But they do not complete the sets of towels in your room. So you had to fight to get a new towel. No bath floor mat: the receptionist never saw this in other hotels so you must not have it either. Only her opinion counts.

You should share the hair dryer with other guests. Do not come to the idea that you can get it overnight. You must return after use because you might steal it and other guests might want to use it during the night.

You should not come 5 minutes earlier for breakfast unless you want to learn some unappropiate words in Icelandic.

You should know that "new" hotel on their website means only that they have a new name but it's not a new building.

That might explains why mixing warm and cold water means that it comes alternating cold and warm during your are taking a shower. As summery you get the right temperatured water.

That might explains why you had for minutes not electric power in your room.

And do not ask for assistance: we asked where might be the best place to see Northern Nights: the answer: you must find yourself.

Wondering how Asian mega hotels would be awarded... Must be like a youth hostel compared to this hotel.

We didn't have any reservation so we have been refused in 5 hotels in Keflavik before finding this one! Maybe there was a lot of vacancies because this hotel was not specified in the tourist guides I had...And also, you may pass in front without noticing it so much because the front windows looked as if the hotel was closed...No light was seen... I felt very very lucky when I got my room! And very clean, modern, quiet, well situated on main street, free parking (few places on the street but others behind, although partly in gravel), nice staff, good breakfast (included)... Excellent!

Close to the airport and clean. Very basic room with good free wifi. Not a lot of extras, but the location is perfect for an early flight. Ask for a room on the ocean side and have an unobstructed view of the water. Front desk staff was very helpful and the price as okay for Iceland.

Room Tip: Be sure to visit the Blue Lagoon and enjoy the thermal hot pool.

We were looking for a hotel for the last two nights of our stay in Iceland, and wanted to be close the airport. We decided on Keflavik for less cost than Reykjavik, proximity to the airport and Blue Lagoon which we'd decided to save for our last day of just chilling out and gathering ourselves together after 11 day trip, and Hotel Keilir after reading reviews. We wanted something basic, clean, affordable, and we got it. We were happy with the location, ease of parking, cleanliness of room, shower, a TV after 10 days without! and would stay there again on our way in or out of Iceland. After reading reviews, we did request a room facing the bay, and that is what I'd advise. After the street noise from reykjavik, we slept well here. I thought the breakfast was just ok, especially compared to the inns we stayed at, and it did take awhile for someone to appear to check us in when we arrived. Otherwise, Keilir met and even exceeded our expectations.

Room Tip: Requested a room facing water. We had no issues with sound, etc. Glancing at other reviews, I'd...
