“Tiny rooms, great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

This hotel is located near the airport and they allowed us to check-in early when we arrived at 7am for an extra $50. The breakfast buffet is amazing, everything that you could possibly want is there. The rooms are tiny- they reminded me of NYC hotel rooms, but they are sufficient for sleeping! (For reference, we had a delux room) There was plenty of parking and you could walk to the restaurants on the main street in town, which of course is always nice!

Room Tip: The deluxe room was very small.

Hótel Keflavík is quite a decent hotel. The rooms are nice and clean, if perhaps slightly dated, the staff are quite efficient, the beds are comfortable and breakfast is plentiful. I stayed in a family bedroom with my children, who were extremely satisfied. Only two things can be complained about: First of all, the windows were so covered with salt from the sea that the view was all but non-existent. Secondly, a receptionist phoned at 12 noon (checkout-time), when we were just about to leave, to inform us that it was time to check out and that the maid had only this one room to clean before getting her Easter break (!). In my humble opinion, guests deserve a little more patience and courtesy.

Dear Helgi,

Thank you for your kind review. I'm glad you liked your stay, the breakfast, the beds and so on. But i'm sorry that you felt that your room was dated, but as we have confirmed before, our hotel is in the process of renovating, we have renovated 17 rooms during this winter out of 68 and hope to finish 32 rooms before the summer. We have also renovated 40 bathrooms in the hotel out of total 70.

But one thing that i'm really shocked to hear is that you were rushed out of your room at 12:00. The check in time is, as you said, at 12:00 and we often let our guests stay a bit longer without hesitation. I will find out why this happened as it's not acceptable for the guest to be rushed out of the room!

I'm though glad that you liked your overall stay. And to compensate for your inconvenience please contact me directly when you want to stay with us again and we'll try to put together something nice for you!

Best regards.

I was pleasantly surprised by how comfy the beds were, how nice the shower was and how delicious and unique the breakfast was. The only downside to this hotel is the location. It is close to the airport, but that's it. It is an expensive cab ride away from the Blue Lagoon and about 45 minutes from the capital. It felt very clean too!

I booked this hotel to allow us some rest on our long journey home from Italy & to fit the Icelandair schedule. What a lucky find this was! Our room was comfortable with DVD player, TV, fridge, microwave & big bathroom. We literally fell into bed & slept soundly. Had we known what breakfast delights were awaiting us in the morning, we would have been dreaming of that, I'm sure. The buffet is set up in a warm, large breakfast room with space enough to seat all guests at once. It included Icelandic specialties made right on the property -- a salmon & egg salad on bread concoction, smoked lamb, breakfast "pizza", crunchy fresh bread, fruit jams, lots of hot coffee & sinful pastries with pecans sprinkled on top. That list is just a few highlights of what's available. The staff are warm & welcoming -- that's a very nice thing when the weather outside is shipping rain at 40 mph! We have landed here several times on our way to & from Europe but we are now planning a real vacation here to see the volcanoes, hot springs, etc. AND to stay at Hotel Keflavik again to eat breakfast.

Late arrivals or early flights? The hotel is a welcome relief! Very short journeys to and from airport. Comfortable beds, reasonable quality meals within the premises, you could consider yourself self-sufficient in that sense. Yes, we did the road trip and visited exciting places and got ourselves amazed with the terrain and unforgettable views. I won't hesitate to recommend this hotel for its functionality and location ... Blue Lagoon isn't far so for us, this hotel is a winner.

Stayed for one night on arrival in Iceland. Very short drive from the airport and a warm welcome. Slightly dated in places and needing a little TLC here and there, but agree with others about a very good breakfast buffet. Overall, a solid if not overwhelming hotel

I stayed at this hotel when I stooped over in Iceland while flying back from London. It is close to the airport, so expected something functional, but spartan and perhaps a bit noisy. The hotel rooms are immaculate, the beds are very comfortable, the furnishings very Scandinavian. Breakfast came with the room, and it offered local foods and great coffee. The staff was incredibly efficient and helpful. Given its proximity to the airport, there could hardly be a better place to stay during a quick stopover in Iceland.
