“a nice guesthouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We merely spent there one night and liked it very much. The room was very spacious and warm, the shared bathroom was very clean and the general atmosphere was very nice. We had to leave in the early morning, before breakfast, so the owner let us use the kitchen for making sandwiches for ourselves and drinking something before leaving. That was deeply appreciated.

Expensive, breakfast not included, kitchen closed for guests in the morning. Old building, a lot of flies, all rooms without bathroom. We paid 95 euro. There are two pretty rooms on top floor but the owner tell you that are always booked

The guesthouse is very clean with a shared bathroom in every floor.
Upon arrival, the door is open, there's a cordless phone and the owner's number to call.
She answer, quote the price in a perfect english and if you want the room, she is there in a minute.
Rooms are clean, bathroom is clean (if left so) and breakfast is average in quantity : kitchen is available during all day for free.
The apartments are 5 minutes walk from center and port.
Only problem is the rate : nearly 90 euros for a room with no bathroom is too much.
But this is Iceland !

We ended up staying here for two nights - felt right at home. The owner was very gracious, the rooms perfect (extra mattresses to accomodate our family of 5) and a nice breakfast in the morning. All in all - perfectly suited for resting before more sightseeing!

We had a lovely one night stay here. We had a very nice family room (good sized, with 4 very comfortable beds) on the ground floor with a beautiful garden and a running stream just outside our window. The guesthouse is also wonderfully clean and well maintained in a central part of town (5 mins walk to the whale watching). The best part of our stay though must be the fantastic hostess who is extremely warm and kind, even offering our family complimentary breakfast! In all we had a very wonderful stay in this guesthouse and would highly recommend it to all travellers!

We received a friendly warm welcome and found the room to be of a good size, although it was a shame about the noisy floorboards and the consequent rattling of the furniture. Sulphur smelling shower as is common in Iceland. Had great black out blinds which was a real plus.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2009

This was the most disappointing of the places we stayed in Iceland. To be fair, the bedroom was clean and had a nice view of the bay, and the kitchen and shared bathroom facilities were adequate (dated, with VERY 70s tiles and fittings everywhere but clean). There was free internet access from one laptop. But the owner didn't tell us we weren't staying in the main guesthouse (the one on the website) but that he'd put us about 1-2km away - we didn't have our own transport so that added to our commute time to Husavik (25 min walk to the centre, whereas main guesthouse is 5min away from the whale watching tours etc). Our room was very small (and remember I travel a lot in Europe and have lived in London, so it takes a lot for me to say a hotel bedroom is small!)

I did think this was very overpriced and the website oversells it - the owners are clearly aware there isn't much competition and so aren't trying particularly hard to keep the place nice and up to date for their visitors. Shame.
