HOTEL REVIEW # 209 Hofn Hotel
MY TRAVEL STYLE: If possible, I try to stay away from business hotels and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences. YOU MUST LOWER HOTEL EXPECTATIONS IN ICELAND (HOTELS HERE WILL NOT IMPRESS).
LOCATION: Great. Good view of the water and a 5 minute walk to restaurants.
BEST WAY TO GET THERE: Hofn airport is about a 8 minute drive.
TYPE OF ROOM: Standard
BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed was a bit hard and sheets and pillows were fine but nothing special.
LIGHTING: Didn’t use since sunlight was constant.
BATHROOM/SHOWER: OK, shower doesn’t have separate area from toilet so water gets everywhere.
TOILETRIES: OK, Bringing your own is recommended.
CLEANLINESS: Hotel and room is spotless
A/C: None… opening window is adequate to keep room cool
STYLE OF ROOM: Scandanavian design.. nothing special but clean and does the job (like most Iceland hotels outside of the capital)
COMMON AREA: Not much of a common area and not a place to hang out.
QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: Room was quiet but sun light could not be blocked which made sleeping more challenging.
FOOD: We had breakfast only which consisted of 3-4 cereals, yogurt, some meats. OK but didn’t seem homemade. This is typical of nearly all hotels in Iceland outside of the capital
TV/INTERNET: TV had only a few channels / Internet worked well in room.
SERVICE: Indifferent, nothing special here.
SUMMARY: Try and get a room with a view of the glacier or one not facing the sun if you want sleep without sunshine (in the summer). Probably the best place to stay in town even though you will be here with the tour and people.
