“Newer Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Stayed here for one night. Upon arrival, I picked up the phone and someone came to check me in very quickly. I was there off season and there were only a few other guests. Nice bathroom amenities.

The decor is a bit different but the beds were comfortable and it was very clean. The vent in the bathroom was broken and a bit loud from the wind outside. Closing the bathroom door solved that.

The restaurant Pakkhus was so good.

This is an odd hotel located next to a gas station on the main road into Hofn. Rooms are oddly decorated with "hand" chairs and really bad art on the walls. It was clean. The front desk was unstaffed and we had to use the house phone to find someone -- who arrived quickly. No one was there when we checked out either, so we just left the keys on the desk. Breakfast was ok but located down the street in a completely different building.

All in all it's good place in a great location. The fact that it's near a gas station is also a plus. The room was nice and clean and the service was very good as well. The price is too high for that kind of rooms, even in Icelandic terms. Anyway, i would recommend on it. Breakfast, which was served in a place nearby, was good.

The Höfn Inn is working together with Hvammur Guest House that is situated at the harbour. We actually had a reservation for a twin room at the Guest House but they had forgotten to book us which is why they sent us to the Höfn Inn where we were supposed to get a room with private bath for the same price as we had booked at the guest house. So far so good. The Höfn Inn was easy to find since Höfn is not a big village and easy to get around. At the Höfn Inn we were greeted by the receptionist (and maybe owner of the place) and he offered us the promised twin room with bath. However, we all of a sudden had to pay extra for the breakfast which was included in the price at the guest house which is also why we had chosen to book there. Anyway, since we wanted breakfast the next morning we agreed to pay for it. The room itself is spacious, so is the bathroom. But the flooring is a bit weird and also very cold. We could not walk on it without shoes or our wool socks. Very inconvenient. But the wireless internet worked very well and the beds were really cosy, which was a big plus. The bathroom with shower was great and the room heated up well within a few hours. The breakfast in the morning in the separate building was ok but definitely overpriced. The nice ladies working there were very friendly and filled up the buffet even after the official breakfast time was over.
All in all our stay was ok and only for sleeping it is definitely recommendable, even though a bit expensive. And breakfast should be included in the rate.
To be honest, the guest house that we had booked with in the first place looked a bit cosier and more inviting, we wished we could've stayed there.

We were greeted by a friendly on-site receptionist and checked-in to a spacious, clean room with good blackout curtains. Wi-fi was good and there was tea/coffee facilities. This is a fine place to stay on the drive around Iceland.

There is a nice, brand new breakfast room situated right across the street from the Inn. The breakfast buffet was to standard.

The receptionist recommended a terrific new restaurant, Pakkhus, located in a converted warehouse on the harbor. It was atmospheric and served some very tasty lobster & seafood.

We were welcomed by the following red-on-white sign in the Hofn Inn entry: "I will be back in a few minutes. Please ring the bell for service.... " The man who came to provide service left immediately after giving us our keys. That sign never came down during our stay. A woman later sat behind the desk for a few hours. When we went to ask her a question, she had gone. That's when we noticed yet another permanent sign next to the phone: "Pick up the phone to call the warden. To call 112, press 8112...." (112 is the emergency number in Iceland.) We never saw anyone in the building, who worked at the inn, again.

This new motel appears to have been constructed to maximum profit and to limit interaction with guests. We had no feeling of hospitality here. The man who came in response to our ringing the bell (perhaps the owner?) obviously wanted to leave and get back to whatever he had been doing as soon as possible.

Our good-sized room had strange pebble-like flooring that felt extremely rough under my slippers. Two chairs shaped like giant hands, complete with fingers, were unsteady and at one point, I almost fell from one onto the floor. The curtains did not totally block out the 24-hour sunlight, which made it difficult to sleep. The twin beds were comfortable, however, and there was plenty of hot water in the shower.

The buffet breakfast that came with the room was served in a building a few minutes walk away across the street. Its offerings were limited and of average quality. We had no desire to linger over coffee.

The wifi connection was good, the room was clean and spacious (maybe too spacious) and there was free parking in front of the guesthouse.
Personally, I didn't enjoy the rooms decoration: hand shape chairs and a feeling of emptiness.
The floor was strangely made by small rolling stones, which hurt the feet when walking barefoot.
The TV was too small for the size of the room and as a result, I was not able to watch TV from the bed, as I was too far away...
I wouldn't recommend the breakfast: the choice isn't great (nor appealing) and it is served in another guesthouse 10min walk away.
It was by far the most expensive room I had in 2 weeks travelling in Iceland, but unfortunately not worth the price.
