“GERDI GUESTHOUSE, NEAR JOKULSARLON, ICELAND”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We have stayed here twice for photography of northern lights and the Ice Lagoon. Meals were delicious, the owner and stuff attentive at all times and the closeness to the Ice Lagoon, a huge plus for us. Good value for money by European standards, spotless and quiet. Would have no hesitation returning there.

We stayed here as a part of a private tour. It was in a fantastic location with beautiful scenery. The dinner we had was one of the better meals in Iceland, though also one of the priciest (4500isk). The room we stayed in had the sloping roof, with the bed placed next to the slope so you'd hit your head if you weren't careful.

We could see a bit of the northern lights off the balcony, so that was pretty awesome. The rooms were clean and the owner was very nice and friendly. Only real complaint was that you had to go downstairs to access wifi.

stayed here for 4 nights. rooms clean and comfortable and the location fantastic. the owner was friendly and helpful and made delicious coffee. had one meal there which was lamb and very good. Breakfast average with not much selection. For a guest house this offers good value for money and it was always full

This is one of the many farm guesthouses in Iceland. You are on farm property, surrounded by a few other buildings, houses, and a restaurant, all owned by the same extended family. The guesthouse is two floors, with a large eating area on the ground floor, and rooms above. The rooms are clean and modern, large bathroom, comfortable beds. You either have views of the ocean or the mountains.

Our arrival was a little awkward; no one was in the guesthouse, so we went next door and the lady there came down and gave us a room. Language was an issue, but we figured it all out. We felt at home here (only one other couple in the whole building), and everyone we met was helpful and friendly. The restaurant just up the road was amazing, considering the location of this farm.

This is a great place to stay when seeing any of the Southeast attractions. It's only a couple of minutes to Jökulsárlón (the Iceberg Lagoon). It is an easy day's drive from Reykjavik, so if doing the ring road, it's a great first night stop. Farmholidays.is arranged this for us.

We have stared at Gerði a couple of times before. Its virtue is its location - a mere 10-12 kms from the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón. The accommodations, however, are rather basic. The bathroom is of poor design with water splashing all over the place when you shower. Internet is free but available only in the breakfast area downstairs. The farmer who runs it is friendly but has not really given the place the thought it deserves to make it a great experience which it has the potential to be.

Dinner and room were ok, but we payed for room and breakfast twice and never got our money back.
We were asked to pay for room and breakfast at check in, so we did.
The next morning we checked out. We had to pay for dinner and drinks but were charged for room and breakfast the second time plus dinner and drinks.
As we realized that mistake we called the guest house and they promised to send the money back. That was two month ago and we are still waiting for the money. I wrote several emails and each time the promised to send the money back within the next days but I guess that will never happen.
Prices in Iceland are far above the rest of europe, so 180 Euro for one night at a guest house with shared bathroom is much, but 360 € is in discussable.

I would stay here all over again! A true guesthouse so don't expect luxury, just nice clean rooms with comfy beds an nice bathrooms. We got warm, friendly service. A perfect location to trek through breathtaking glaciers and black sand beaches (with icebergs on the beach!). The farmhouse is not really located in hofn, in fact it's about 40 mins away. Instead the guesthouse is in Gerdi, a small road of the main road. So when driving there, pay attention, if you are too busy paying attention to the breathtaking views around it you may miss the guesthouse. There are no words to describe the beauty of Iceland except "go see it!"
