“Asgardur Guesthouse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Touris arranged this accommodation for us and we were happy with their choice.

The Asgardur is similar to a motel in North America. It is an older 2-storey guesthouse with no elevators.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. Furniture was slightly dated but that didn't bother us. Beds were comfortable. Huge windows overlooked the sea. There was no internet access in the room but access was available in the lobbies.

Breakfast was served in a very pleasant and clean dining room. Food was excellent. There were a few extra items offered, such as pickled herring, which was a nice treat.

Staff were friendly and efficient.

Location was very good.

We would definitely stay here again.

Not sure what the official definition of guesthouse versus hotel is in Iceland, but this was a two story hotel by American standards. There is not elevator to the second floor (typical for Iceland).

The check-in staff was very friendly and provided a town map marked with restaurant recommendations. Our room had a fantastic view of the harbor. Room was average for Iceland but clean. Other guests were quiet and we slept well.

Breakfast was at 07:00 and was typical Icelandic fare. No WiFi in room, but there was one computer on the first floor (always occupied when we looked). Was able to walk to grocery store (closed at 19:00) and restaurants from the hotel.

Room Tip: View towards the harbor on the second floor

There is little charm to this hotel or the rooms, but the price is right. The rooms future twin beds with little adornment and there is little in the way of a lobby (generic Ring Road accommodations, in this regard). Free wifi is nice, but one must move to the dining area to connect. Breakfast is fine. A solid place to stay for a single night without spending an arm and a leg. Check in, sleep and move on the next day.

We stayed one night here. Our room was a bit small, but otherwise well equipped with TV, king-size bed and a clean private bathroom. If you choose (like us) a room with a sea-side view then you will enjoy the great view on the lake Lagarfljot and the glacier beyond. The breakfast was quite good and the free WIFI was always working and reasonable fast.

We had booked there early 2012 2 nights for june 2012. We are used to travel through iceland every summer from 3 years changing of cottage or B+B every two nights (and through many others countries from 15years).
This has been our very first bad experience. Very small chalet (we knew it by adv) but very old furniture. and We felt that Nothing had been renovated from app 20/25years! All semt dark and dirty and the beds were uncomfortable, the linen worn-out. We had not visited before paying (which was not so correct even if the welcoming had been nice).
I strictly refused to sleep there and rather shocked, we have left consequently in the first two hours to find a room somewhereelse without recovering our money. What a pity as the surroundings were correct
An effort to change furniture+linen, and re-painting inside the chalet is a quite easy thing to do.
The price is very expensive in these conditions, especially as each small chalet is expected to be booked for two pairs of people which seems crazy !
sorry, it has been our only bad memory of our 3 consecutive trips in Iceland.

This is more of a hotel than a guesthouse. The decor seems a bit dated, but it is very clean and well-kept. The beds were quite comfortable. Wifi is available in the common areas. The breakfast was excellent! Don't miss sunrise, the views of the glaciers and the sunrise over the harbour are stunning!

This hotel reminded me of a dorm. It had the basics which is really all we needed since we were just sleeping there for 1 night. The owner's son and his family were running it for the winter and were really friendly. They did not have dinner options but there was plenty of restaurants in town. He recommended Cafe Hornid which had very good food. They had a very nice spread for breakfast the next morning.
