“Lots of Hot Water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

A visit to the Geysir is usually part of the Great Circle tour from Reykjavik. The geyser shoots off about once every 8 minutes (or did while we were there). It is pretty spectacular and on par with similar shows in New Zealand. The area around the geyser is a geothermal area so there are other small springs and bubbling mud pools around. The attached (over the road) cafe and shop is a magnet for tourists having lunch and shopping. Compared to the shop at Gullfoss, this one was more reasonably priced. Lots of peolple from the tourist coaches.

“Amazing, I could have stayed there for hours!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

This is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Strokkur is the only geysir that is actually active. "Geysir" itself is only some 100 meter away but hasn't been active for about 10 years.
Strokkur is almost hypnotic: you cannot stop looking how the water grows in bubbles before exploding into a 20 meter high water jet every 10 minutes or so. I think I spent about 2 hours looking at that pretending I was able to predict the next explosion. It was worth the travel to Iceland!

“A must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Fortunately, I had my trusted Lonely Planet guide with me, so I realised that there is little point standing waiting for Geysir to blow (unlike my husband, who patiently waited there for a while...). Strokkur (quite close to Geysir) is a very dependable geysir, spouting every few minutes. It is amazing to watch the water create a blue dome before it spouts high into the air. Part of the excitement is watching the pool and trying to work out when it is going to go. We managed to get really good photos and video and watched it go several times.

“Spectacular”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Several hot springs and a great geysir. It blows every three minutes or so, and varies in height. Stay for at least five-six blows and you'll catch a big one. Stay away from the fall down, the water is hot!

“Go For the Geysirs...and this "Secret" Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

The original geyser ("Geysir" in Icelandic) has not erupted like it once did. From what I read, there is more activity now than in recent years, but the big draw to this area now is Strokkur. It did erupt a few times while I was there. It is a nice, interesting walk around it and the other geysers in the area, but just behind them is another treat that I'm sure most people never see. If you hike up the hills in the background, you will have a FANTASTIC view of a small village below (see pics attached to this review). If you are able, it is WELL worth the effort to climb up here. Great views of the surrounding countryside (and the aforementioned geysers as well!).
