“Go for the geysir not the overpriced pitt stop beside it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

The big geysir, the original one now is broken but the other one erupts every 5 mins or so and it's way impressive.

“Shoot up to the attraction - dont miss it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Like the waterfalls, it is a long trip from Reyjkavik. But certainly worth it. The centre (The geyser itself is a part of a medium size centre) itself has a resturant and shop with toilet facilities. The toilets wee clean and numerous. The restuarant is suprisingly very good. On the day we had a type of bef stew and it actually turned out to be one of the best meals we had whilst in Iceland. The staff there are also amazingly helpful, even telling us what was the best seat to sit in to look outside. The shop has a large array of tourist items, a bit expensive again but otherwise pretty good.

Outisde you go across a road to the actual geysers. There are a number of small "Holes" some which may occassionally spout a very small amount of water but are none the less interesting to look at. As you move along you evenually come to the most active geyser. It blows roughly every 20 minutes. A tip here is that you can tell when it is amout to go but the water suddenly being sucked down before it shoots up. You have about 5 seconds between one and the other. Every now and then you may get multiple spouts. We where lucky enough to have 3 one after the other. Another tip here. Assuming you want to take photgraphs dont try and take any on the first showing that you see. You will jump to much from the power of it. Watch the first as a spectator. Then take pictures at the next. You will get much better pictures this way. Dont exepct to get wet watching this. You wont.

Away from the main geyser there are at least two others well wworth looking at behind and to the left of the main one. One of these doesnt spout any water, but you can see all the wy down the very deep hole. It is quite something to look down it. The other geyser is the largest. Until about a year ago it was active but no longer is. It is about twice the size of the main active geyser so it must have been quite something to see.

Another tip is that it is extremely cold here. You are right by te smaller mountains/hills and the wind comes down bittingly cold. Make sure you rap up well. We got there about 3 or 4pm and it wasn't as busy as other times might be.

Overall, really good and definately worth going to. Do eat at the resturant, the food is suprisingly good (Try the cakes as well - amazing).

“Breathtaking”

Strokkur is simply superb, it's worth the small wait and the shop and restaurant is reasonably priced, don't forget your camera!

“Strokkur Doesn't Disappoint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

You need to wait a small while, but Strokkur doesn't disappoint with its explosive spurts. Take a video camera / use your smart phone to record them.

“The kids were amazed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

We drove out to Geysir on a beautiful afternoon last week (October 20, 2012). The drive was easy with lots of beautiful scenary along the way. The visitor center at Geysir has two restaurants to choose from , bathrooms and a souvenir shop. Across the street is a walking path that brings you first to "Litli Geyser" which seemed to be a boiling hot pot in the ground. I'm not sure if it actually ever blows, but it is very near the path so I assume it doesn't. Next the path brings you to Strokkur which regularly blows (every 5-10 minutes). Further on the path is Geysir, but it only blows 1-3 times per day now so we did not see that happen.
The whole area at Geysir is quite scenic and my girls were amazed by Strokkur.
