“Highlight of the South West”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

We drove all the way from Reykjavik and this was our main aim. It didn't disappoint. The lake itself is stunning and the black sanded beach where the iceburgs wash up was spectacular (worth the drive across the gravel). This tiny section of Iceland is like another world and sums up everything we wanted to see.

We took the amphibious boat tour through the lake and it was wonderful to get up close(ish) to the iceburgs. The tour was a little light on information, and for the price you'd expect a little more.

“Speechless!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Great place! You don't necessarily need to ride on the Zodiac tour, but we also did this, and it was a quite nice our on the lagoon. You'll get some amazing pictures at this location, and be sure to visit the beach right across that street for more beach ice pictures! Seals are abundant in the water, and the iceburgs are gorgeous. One of my favorite sights in Iceland, not to be missed!

“striking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

this place is the most unique breadth taking I have ever visted. It was out of this world, this bizarre lagoon just set in the middle of nowhere was so diverse, def do no not miss this place you will never see nothing like it. The colours scenery are fantastic. There is a great little cafe there you can eat a basic meal at . we had seafood soup which was lovely. bit of advice on approaching this place couple of yards before there is a liltle turn off to park, from here you can have the most amazing view, def the best place to stop

“Worth the planning to spend a few days on the southeast.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

Truly beautiful and unique. Once you get here we figured it was worth the boat trip. It just gives you different angles and more opportunities to take more pictures, but if you're on a budget simply a walk on the shore would suffice. But I definitely think the amphibian boat tour was great and don't see any reason to spend more money on the Zodiak tour.

Watch "Die Another Day" beforehand and you'll see the lagoon frozen over (they blocked the incoming sea water to allow the temperature to drop).

“You have to experience it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

A previous reviewer said there is no way to take a bad photo here. I'm going to have to take issue with that statement. I think there is no way to take a photo that will do this place justice. Sure, take a look at the photos posted, but none of them will capture the true beauty of Jokulsarlon Lagoon. The natural beauty of this place just envelops you. Something that can never be captured in a photograph.

We got there by driving from Reykavik. It's a bit of a haul, but once you are there you'll be glad you made the 260 km trek.

By all means go into the lake by boat if they are available. It's quite amazing to be floating among the icebergs.

Now that 260 km drive. That ain't nothing to sneeze at, either. The distance is significant but the scenery on the way is not to be missed. In addition, you can break up the trip by stopping at Skógafoss and the black sand beaches near Vik. Neither of these should be missed either.
