“Nice hotel in downtown of Turku”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

This was my first stay in Scandic Plaza hotel however I have visited other hotels in Turku several times before. I was happy that I ended up to book this hotel for several reasons: good location (in the heart of Turku city, beside a walking street), peaceful environment, nice and clean room, tasteful breakfast and the building itself. The building has an interesting history eg. it used to be a hospital during the second world war. Nowadays it is a listed building by authorities and I find it a very good idea that it's renovated as a hotel. One thing worth mentioning is the parking because it is just beside the hotel and it's included in the price. I'm sure will book a room at Scandic Plaza also for the next time travelling to Turku.

Excellent location close to the City Market, shops walking streets. It was easy to go eating, shopping and so on. There is free parking for your car and the location for the hotel is ideal for City holiday. The hotel is just average but everything is working, bathrooms could have some upgrading. There was no AC in the rooms. The breakfast is excellent as always in Scandic-Hotels.

We came by the car. Although I had read the advice, it was quite difficult to find the announced parking hall Anttila. Passed many times the right approach street. Also challenging was to understand how to get to the parking hall late in the evening. Finally was very easy, once you had done it once.

Breakfast was average and salty, I would like to have some special from the countryside near by the city. The breakfast space was not inviting.

In the sleeping room there was no AC, which would had been nice when it was exceptionally hot also in the night.

Best in the hotel was that it was in the centre, next to the marketing place. That´s why I chose that.

Room Tip: Over 4.th floor could be best, ask if there is AC if hot in the Finland

We liked the locatoin. It was easy to go eating, shopping and so on. Otherwise it was typical Scandic hotell. They have notised children. It was easy to go breakfast because there was childrens play area beside our table. Food was good. We had bigger room and it was nice. Toilet was clean but they should clean up the room little bit better. Staff was friendly in reception. In the hotell is sauna and gym, but we didn't used those.

Location could not be better, right in the middle of city center but still quiet due to being in corner of pedestrian street.
Room has all the amenities described in their web pages, like ironing facilities, mini bar etc. but the room looked horrible. Walls were full of black marks from the floor up to 1 meter. Probably from moving the furniture and dirty luggage but still, how much trouble it is to paint them? Next to the window the paint was cracking and looked really bad. The sink in the bathroom was also cracked. Have a look at the pictures....

I believe the room was quite clean but with this look it did not feel like it. Worse thing still was the shower. It was so narrow that normal size woman had problems there, let alone big man. You can't wash yourself properly there with the door closed. And if you keep it open you wet the whole place.
Breakfast was kind of "tired", bread was not fresh which I suppose is quite common in Finland on Sundays. Vegetables probably were cut the night before and the egg-butter (eaten in Finland with Carelian pies) was not recognizable. The breakfast room was not cozy at all, we had a feeling that we need to eat as quickly as possible and get out of there.

Good thing about the hotel is that they have couple of bicicles they borrow to visitors free of charge. Unfortunately on our stay the weather was little to cold for that.

Next time I will select another hotel.

The hotel is sited downtown. Close to the City Market, shops and pubs. The style of furniture are common within the other Scandic hotels. Common spaces are really cleaned. The rooms are little bit small, and some accessories should be changed. (Old style).
Sunday evening the kitchen was closed and during the breakfast there were nobody for asking.
Wifi connection is free of charge everywhere and works properly.
In the entrance you can find a lot of maps in case you need to discovered new places.

Excellent location but the hotel is just average. Rooms are quite plain, which is ok for a business trip, but the bathrooms could use some upgrading. Also, both times I have visited, the bathrooms were not cleaned well. Pillow sucked. Breakfast was quite good, but not as high quality as some scandics I have visited uring the past year. The restaurant on the ground floor (Bryggman's) is actually quite nice, I suggest you give it a try.
