“surrounded by real nature”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

Fab view. Beautiful lake, woods, few people around. Quite place this winter. Good service. Sauna and pool is just what you need to relax in the eve. We didnt pay much attention to design and so would not agree that it is ugly or so -as it looks like Finnish design should be -simple and close to nature - and we enjoy this. If someone wants goldish toilets or swarovski on the ceiling with highteck features everywhere its just not that kind of place. Breakfast choice is good enough untill you are used to cook yourself 15 dishes every morning on your breakfast just for variaty.

Scandic Hotel Rosendahl is really good reminder of the "good times". Decor and style is oldish, but everything still in a reasonable shape. Room was not very large, though for a regular room you cannot expect too much.

Service OK, breakfast OK, sleep quality OK. Located in a very beautiful surroundings and a lot of parking space.

I was on business trip with customers. There were not many people in the hotel during winter time and still enjoyed good bar, swiming pool and sauna. For a late arrival, bar was open with decent local food.

Room Tip: ask for a room on upper floors with a view over the lake

This hotel was in much better condition than anticipated. Friendly reception, beautiful beach (see picture), enormous pool, free outside parking. On the minus side, no proper a/c although there is central ventilation. And no in-room safe. But comfortable, big enough beds and a big bathroom. Untypically for a Scandic, there still is also a minibar in the room. The biggest letdown was the restaurant. Not nice ambiance, not very good food and slow service. But maybe I was unlucky with the two last ones.. Had the restaurant been good, I would have given the hotel four stars.

I've stayed at this hotel on business several times now and have no real complaints. Food is ok and tends to get very busy with xmas parties etc. during November. Prices are ok and rooms are clean enough. As I said, stayed in worse, not a hotel I would class as memorable.

Our family (2+2) Spend 2 nights in Rosendahl where we have been many times earlier too. Room was Family superior +(plus) which was great. Family room is ok, family superior has free TV channels and some small upgrade stuff, but family superior + is a room with 2 rooms connected to each other. One room standard 2 persons room and other room is large room with sofa-bed, tables, TV, bathroom etc. So difference between Family superior vs Family superior + is huge.

Service nice except they forgot to tell us about free TV channels and all other things included to superior + -category.

Sauna, swimming pool etc are nice. If drinks could be available by the pool it would be great.

Restaurant ok, food pretty good and Scandic style -50% of price when children ordering from adults menu is good!

Location of the hotel is by a lake, beautiful Pyynikki area around you but still near city centre.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

Stayed at the beginning of August. Outdoor temperature was a lovely 24 degrees, but the room was far too hot. There's no proper air-conditioning, just heating and ventilation. The fan had to be kept on high to provide air flow, but that meant sleep quality was compromised, as it was very loud.

I booked two "superior extra rooms", as the hotel offered a good summer deal. Check-in had some computer problems, and it took about 10 minutes to get the room keys. We didn't get adjacent rooms, but were placed on separate floors, third and fourth, which I found disappointing.

Both rooms had a very nice view to the lake. The rooms were filled with light, they were spacious and clean, but could use some modernising. Small old fashioned TV set, scratched parquetry in one room, carpet in the other, and overall dated decor. Bathrooms especially had a distinct 80s feel.

Bar staff was slow, and the bar mostly unattended. Breakfast area was the typical noisy deal of a large hotel. Selection was good though.

The Scandic chain has obviously invested in an attempt to brighten up the atmosphere and visitor experience by designing and copywriting dozens after dozens of promotional and informative posters, notes as well as cutesy marketing materials for the rooms, elevators and throughout the common areas. These were so widely spread that they became annoying and to me took away from the hotel's own personality.

On the day we were at the hotel the pool was closed. The sign read "The pool is currently closed due to an urgent need to clean it". That wording certainly didn't give a very promising impression about the general state of hygiene.

The location is absolutely wonderful. With all that lovely water and forest, it is hard to believe that even in summer, the only outdoor seating is a couple of tables facing the car park, and they are used mainly by smokers.

This hotel has its own definite charm. It is probably still a good choice for conferences. There were lots of families too, as it was the last week of summer holidays - and with a mini train connecting to the Särkänniemi amusement park, they were most likely very pleased. However, to me, the way Scandic Rosendahl is currently operated is not very appealing.

Room Tip: Rooms on 3rd and 4th floors on the lake side have a great view.
