“lovely location next to the most special beach in Finland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2014

The location of this hotel could not be better if you love sunbathing and nature: it is just next to the famous Yyteri beach. I stayed in a newly renovated room in 3rd floor. Unfortunately there was no seaview and the hotel rooms don't have balconies either, otherwise the room would have been perfect. Bed was comfortable and sleep-quality good. Staff was super-friendly and helpful.

I would not recommend this to solo travellers, though, since it mostly host groups of people who were there for health courses or families with small children, I felt a bit odd there in the evenings. Nothing happens after 23 o'clock when the lobby bar closes... Taxi to Pori costs app. 40€ one way so one needs to have a car if he/she wishes to have a bit of nightlive. Next time I try their summer cottage facilities and bring friends along!

Room Tip: Ask for newly renovated room

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

There are no recent reviews, so I'll tell a little of my experience from the summer 2014. Yyteri Hotel & Spa is situated in a fantastic location next to the sea with wonderful sand dunes and the owners of the hotel are sure to make every effort to maintain and improve customers' conditions and to meet their expectations.

The building is not attractive from the outside, but the rooms are generally quite functional, the staff is friendly and the facilities are clean. My room on 5th floor had a beautiful sea view and the bed was all right for me. Bathrobes for use in the room. The pools are refreshing, a Turkish sauna is shared for men and women and one should not wear a bathing suit there; it is ok to wrap up in a towel, but not necessary. The not yet renovated rooms, however, are unattractive and hotel rooms do not have air conditioning. The wardrobe is really small. Some basic Finnish tv-channels can not be seen in room TV, there is one international news channel.

The breakfast was sufficiently varied, but hot foods in all buffet meals were not hot enough and they got cooled down before being able to reach the table. This was the case both for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Especially regarding the dinner buffet the price did not meet expectations.
Ala carte dinner was good: I had Raspberry Chicken, roasted chicken with raspberry and port wine sauce, "rösti" potatoes and vegetables and in the next table Planked Steak, cow filet steak 200 g with mashed potatoes and vegetables as well House Chicken Caesar salad with bread looked really nice. My own portion lacked this bread which looked delicious.

Sauna & pool area was not equipped with a sufficient number of showers, so you had to wait for your turn often. The locker room key was to be asked at the reception on the ground floor and pool located at 2 th floor. The key could be left in a box at the spot.

Terrain is wonderfully flat for biking and bicycles are for rent 8 EUR / 3 hours and 15 EUR for a whole day. Along the shoreline you can do Nordic walking or go on the nature trail in
the forest. There are plenty of birds in more tranquil part of the beach.

Here you can rest and gather strength from nature. To ensure nice visit try to book your stay for not the hottest summertime.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room, avoid top floors during hot summer days.

This traditional hotel is located next to one of the most famous beach in Finland. Hotel is in good shape now. It's newly renovated, clean and comfort. Staff was friedly and helpful. There is good spa and beach facilities. Restaurant has tasty food and choices to everyone. I organized two days business meeting there. Everything was better than I was expecting before our meeting. I will be back.

The hotel doesn´t look very tempting outside, but the 70´s decor in the lobby and in the restaurant was actually quite nice. Our expectations were not very high, so the hotel was more than we expected. We enquired the renovated room (and got one), which was quite ok and the bathroom was also nice. Air con would have been great too. Our 4 year old loved the spa, which was small but nice. Kids playroom was great! The location of the hotel is beautiful, right next to the beach. The breakfast was ok, but nothing special. The service we got at the hotel was friendly. The room price was high.

Room Tip: Enquire for the renovated room

Stayed three nights with kids & grandparents. Hotel is outside Pori, just 200 m from sand dunes.
I liked the place:
- family room was spacious, including well-designed bathroom
- spa section was small but just perfect for our kids (1 and 4 yo)
- kids playroom was large, with plenty of toys
- restaurant food was good (esp a la carte), yet a little pricey

Some issues were
- no aircon in rooms, luckily our visit was not the hottest week
- sundays the breakfast starts at 8 am, which is late if kids wake up at 6 am

All in all cozy hotel. Very quiet. Has been built in 1970s, so some parts need renovation, but we had nothing to complain.

We probably got good deal, I did not find the hotel expensive.

Yyteri Golf club (with excellent lunch buffet) is just 3 km away.

The hotel truly had some 70's charm with a renovated feel.
+The surroundings were amazing. The beach was right there and the lovely dunes with the white sands was something we thought we could not see in Finland.
+the spa was small but nice and the outdoor pool area was a nice touch
+our room was apparently one of the renovated ones because it was in good condition (even though air con would have been a nice addition)

+-the service was ok friendly but the staff did not do anything extra to make you feel welcome or well taken care of at the restaurant
+- the dinner they serve (we tried both the buffet and a la carte) was ok but it lacked imagination. Also I found it funny that they had no balsamico in the whole hotel and goat cheese on the green salad turned out to be just parmesan like chips.

-the breakfast. I don't understand why they don't do something to it as it is obviously bad (and other people have mentioned it in Tripadvisor as weel). The selection is ok and there are all the basic stuff you need but it lacks effort. For example the "scrambled eggs" looked like pudding and tasted bad. You could also tell that the ingredients were lousy and the was no extra effort put into them. All in all I think it is more about making the things they serve better (make real scrambled eggs and meatballs for example) and making sure they are fresh rather than spending more money in adding more varities or totally upgrading the food.
-the seagulls on the terrace of the restaurant were quite aggressive and totally annoying
-the hotel just had this feeling that they don't provide anything "extra" (no beach towels, no beach party atmosphere in their beach cafe etc.) that would have made them something else than just a place to sleep
-the price of 150€ per night for two really didn't feel like money well spent on this hotel unless you really enjoyed the beach and the convenient location of the hotel

Thank you for your review. The nature here in Yyteri really is amazing.

We don't try to be what you expect of for example German or Austrian spa (there is actually a conflict when you use the term spa since people all over the world have different expectations, but spa is the only word we have). As for the "extra" services we have many times tried to offer something extra for our guests when they have asked but it always turns out that then they don't use the extra services. Beach towels we have thought about (although it is not so environmentally friendly to use more and more towels) but I am afraid beach parties are not for a family hotel with a nature conservation area next to it.

We like to keep the food we serve simple and Finnish. You are right that we should have better breakfast. We will definately look into that and many more things since as a family hotel we are trying to improve our services and surroundings small steps at a time.

Stayed one night with wife and two kids.

Our expectations were high but must say that we were disappointed very much. The whole hotel should be renovated from floor to roof. The 80's atmosphere was in the rooms, breakfast room and in the "spa". Our rooms was a little bit dirty and smelled weird but there was enough space for us.

The breakfast was in a huge room and was quite decent. Little bit under Finnish average but eatable.

The spa was the biggest disappoinment. Really you should not talk about spa. It's just a big swimming pool and thats all. The bathroom was also very old. Dont bother to go to the spa.

The beach near the hotel is very nice. If there is nice weather then the beach is the best with this hotel.

The reception has over prized stuff they are selling there but the service was good. Also the room was way over prized to the quality.

Heidi S, Owner at Yyteri Hotel & Spa, responded to this review, March 5, 2013
The hotel was built in 1974 and as you can see it represents the architecture of that time. The hotel is old but we also want to maintain the 1970's atmosphere in the hotel since we want to do things a little bit differently than everyone else. We are a family-owned hotel and as you can imagine we cannot renovate the whole hotel in one year. From 2006 we have renovated almost all the public spaces, the pool area, saunas, elevators and almost 40 rooms. At the moment we are still renovating the rooms and of course we have lots of big plans but as we know, money doesn't grow in a tree.

Believe it or not we are all the time doing our best to make the hotel and spa more comfortable for our guests.

You are right that the spa isn't what most adults expect of a spa. However we do have there more than just big swimming pool. You can find a 17 m fitness pool, pool with hydromassages and small water slide, jacuzzi, pool for little children, outdoor pool and Finnish and Turkish saunas. Most of our customers enjoy that the spa is small and pretty quiet (except maybe during summer). Also on our website we have lots of truthful photos of the spa and of all the spaces in the hotel so that our guests know what to expect.

I'm glad you and your family enjoyed the nature surrounding the hotel since the nature and the fresh sea air really are amazing. That is also for example why we don't have curtains in our restaurant, just big windows that help bring the nature inside.
