“Starter speciality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

2 minutes boat trip from Cafe Carusel boat deck. Suggest to order Saari speciality for starter. All Finnish delicacies on the wooden plate. Cozy athmosphere in dining room decorated like fishermans cottage. Read more from website reijosfood.com

“Saari Restaurant, Helsinki, Finland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Ravintola (= restaurant) Saari is a very cool place. I am originally from Helsinki and I still visit my home town every year, so I remain sort of local.

Take a taxi or walk from downtown area to Karuselli restaurant in Eira - this is where the little ferry boat takes you the short distance (500 meters) to the island of Sirpalesaari where the restaurant is located. If you have a table reservation, the ferry ride is free both ways.

Entering the restaurant, you have a wonderful bar area with a fire place and the whole place has a Finnish Archipelago-theme. Food was good, although portions could have been little bigger (yes, I have lived in USA too long, haha !).

Great service, very nice views, reasonable prices, and the only minor setback is that this is a summertime place only....Then again, in the winter everything is frozen so maybe it is a good thing after all.

This is a very cool idea when you want to do something out of the strictly touristy stuff.

Good experience - I definitely recommend.

“Perfect place to go with kids.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Great food and service. In addition to that kids can have great time outdoors. Try a bottle of Marskin Ryyppy with salmon soup.

“View to die for...but windy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

This restaurant is at Sirpalesaari island and you get there by ferry or by your own boat. It's a lovely place during summer, the view is spectacular but always windy. They even had an accordian player there. We just had a traditional fish soup and for the dessert their classic "tar"ice-cream. Service was smooth and food ok. Reasonable price. Very nice place indeed.

“What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Open only in the summertime, Ravintola Saari offers a terrific view, great service and a nautical feel. Do try to get a table outside, even if it's late in the season. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but worth the splurge. The entrees were good if not spectacular but there's an appetiser that's the "secrets of the island" or something like that and it is just superb little bites. Biggest surprise was the exquisite lemon herring: so delicious and it just melted on your tongue! The blueberry & cava drink is like the Finnish equivalent of a bellini and goes great with a starter or dessert. Not a broad selection of wines, but good choices. And really, you can't beat the view!
