“Christmas sale”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2014

This fish restaurant located in a basement close to the open air market usually offers relaxed fine dining. Their special Christmas menu, however, did not quite fulfill our expectations. The service was friendly, but this time too hasty since the house was full. The buffet marking the first course was pretty ordinary, and lacking clarity. Some very strongly marinated herring and whitefish, smoked whitefish with no salt, plain shrimp, plus Waldorf salad and mushroom salad which did not taste all that fresh. Our second course, grilled pike perch with white wine sauce over a bed of beans and crispy fennel slices, was delicious but unfortunately only luke warm. The wine selection is good but pricy. The dessert, choclate-almond cake with black currant sauce tasted heavenly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for fish and seafood lovers, BUT not during the holiday season. Namely, it turned out, that their Nov-Dec Christmas menu is part of a sales campaign with a coupon offer of "two for the price of one". If you had the coupon, it is good value. If not, you may feel a bit dissapointed.

“Very happy with the special Christmas Fish Feast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2014

I was treated to dinner at this cool and relaxing restaurant by a Finnish friend. Even though the place is in a basement, it was very welcoming and it was easy to carry on a conversation using normal speaking tones. We chose to have the special Christmas fish feast menu, which was really terrific. The first course is a seafood buffet and you can eat as much as you like. It included several kinds of herring, oysters, whitefish, roe salad, cured salmon, Waldorf salad, mushrooms in sour cream, prawns, and many other delicious options. I took a small sampling of most of what was on offer and thoroughly enjoyed all of the new flavors. Everything was very fresh and delicious. The second course included a choice of fish and I had the pike perch, which was delicious served over a bed of edamame and some kind of cabbage in a very light sauce. It was a really delicate taste. There are also two dessert options and I chose the lingonberry cake, because I had never had one before and this also was an interesting and delicious dessert. As others have mentioned the wines were very expensive but the one we got was really delicious and matched our food perfectly. We did end up spending about $100 a person, but given that the first course was a buffet of finely prepared foods, I didn't feel that this was an excessive charge. We often eat out here in DC and spend similar money for lower quality food. However, if I had had a single starter instead of that buffet, it would've felt like an expensive dinner. Nevertheless, I would definitely return because I love fish and the quality of the food was universally high.

“Easy to miss”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2014

This restaurant is in the basement, and you could easily miss it if you were walking by.

I had the Herring for the appetizer and the Pike for the main course. Both were good. As with other restaurants in this area, a bit pricey. 4EUR for a bottle of water?

“Beautiful fish dishes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2014

We stumbled accross this place and are really glad we gave it a try. We had some beautifully cooked fish dishes, all imaculately presented: real high end food. It wasn't cheap but given the high quality food, service and ambience, we thought it was good value. Would recommend.

“Delicious! Lovely fish restaurant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2014

If you a a fish/seafood lover thats the place! Yummy stuff and very high quality. The service is very attentive too! Good wine list. The main course winners were the smoked Whitefish (take this if you are hungry - it is quite big, but amazingly delish), or fish and chips (medium size). I didn't leave hungry :). Everything just so good! Not a cheap place, but if you a looking for a nice not too laud place to eat good fish in a nice setting - totally go for it. We went with the colleagues after work while on biz trip - good place for biz dinner/lunch as one can have a meeting without much disturbance. I personally see the place more as very cosy and romantic.
