“Nice location and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We like to book this particular hotel while travelling to Helsinki.
Very nice location in the very center of the city, close to different places of interest and main shopping area. The well-known Fazer cafe is located in the opposite house.
Breakfast is quite nice, the restaurant is not overcrowded, you can always find the place to sit.
Besides, if you are travelling by car it's more cheap to book a parking space through the hotel, than to pay an average price.

We stayed for 3 nights and were apparently upgraded- the room was quite large but the view was non existent. As stated previously the beds were two singles together with separate quilts but oh so comfy !
Yes , the shower floods the bathroom floor but nothing major , it just drains away - At least it was powerful and warm- the breakfast was pretty rubbish, little choice and in quite a crammed area- a certain member of staff needed a personality by pass but for a clean well equipped hotel , this was ideal for our needs. We checked out the Fabian and although it was very chic , the location wasn't a patch on the Glo.
Despite my negative comments , I would still recommend it.

Spent 2 nights in a deluxe room, spacious, modern, stylish and luxe.
What I was impressed by was that the room actually looked like the picture in the website. Many times other hotels do not like up to their publicity pic images. Bed was comfy, full black out curtains a plus (poor employees across the street were in the office late at night, with all lights on)

The location is also very accessible and convenient. We took a tram to the ferry terminal for a day trip to Talinn in Estonia.
All within walking distance are restaurants, cafes, clubs, retail shops art galleries and other cultural and tourist sites. We walked to a restaurant in the park which served dinner till late.

Only complaint was that the modern design includes a bath area that is not closed off from the rest of the room. Its behind the separating wall. You bathe and step out into the freezing cold. Make sure your turn off your airconditioning first.

Only complaint? The soft toy on the bed wasn't free! Took him home for 23 Euros.

I spent one night in this hotel with my wife after reading very good feedback by other traveler. I booked a deluxe double with breakfast. Upon arrival the room was quite cold and even after increasing the temperature it never got really warm. But the real problem was kept heating on all night and it was very noisy. Otherwise the room was very nice, well furnished and comfortable.

Breakfast was not as good as we expected, it was just ok. Selection of both warm and cold food was very limited for a hotel of this level, practically no fruit and even no yogurt available.

Stayed here for one night as my usual choice of hotel in Helsinki (Crowne Plaza) was full. The location of this hotel is great, very central with good access to shops and restaurants. Friendly and efficient check-in staff upon arrival. Room was a good size double (although like many Scandinavian hotels...a double bed actually seems to be two individual beds next to each other or with separate duvets. Rooms look very recently refurbished and had high quality furnishings and other nice touches such as Tivoli Audio HiFi units to plug ipods etc into. What is quite different (and seems to divide opinion amongst guests here) are the bathrooms...my bathroom was essentially like a glass cube in one corner of the room...the glass is smoked and has large sliding glass doors that slide together to form part of the walls...they don't fully close however, so depending upon your comfort level at such an arrangement, it may not be the greatest of hotels to stay at with your partner!

Other than that, there is little to criticise this hotel about. I only tried room service as far as food goes, and it was expensive (this is Finland after all) but very nicely prepared and presented. The hotel seems to be in the middle of a refurbishment at the moment, so my room was obviously one that had been refurbished. The area between the lifts and the corridors was a little low rent but otherwise this is a great hotel in a great location, as long as the bathrooms don't put you off!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Beforehand I knew that the GLO would be a bit more modern hotel and so it was. Unfortunately, my room was facing the courtyard so no view and there wasn't a sofa. However it was quiet and the decoration was very stylish.

The bed was possibly one of the best ones I've ever slept in (in a hotel). Location couldn't be better - the major department stores like Stockmann and Sokos are near by the hotel. WiFi worked fine and was free of charge.

The staff were exceptionally polite as expected, especially in the breakfast room even though the breakfast itself was just basic but I loved the spicy salami sausage!

To sum up, this is one of the greatest hotels in Helsinki, just look for their "Early bird" -rates.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are quiet.

We stayed at the Glo Kluuvi for our three day visit to Helsinki and found it excellent.

First, the location: fantastic. Two blocks from the railway station; trams virtually at the door; walking distance to many of Helsinki's landmarks and best stores. Oh, and Fazer Chocolates main cafe and chocolate shop right across the road.

Second, the room: compact, very comfortable. We had a room with a bath. I note one review which describes a 'picture window' view of the bathroom. Ours wasn't like that, though it is directly connected to the room without a door (the toilet is in a separate room with its own door). While I wouldn't want to share this room with a business colleague (not least because of the king size bed!), it suited us perfectly.

Third, the breakfast: the additional charge for this is modest and the offering very extensive: lots of baked things, eggs, bacon, salmon, ham, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc etc. Excellent quality, very good service and overall good value.

The only minor criticism we had was the dinner offering at the restaurant. All that was available was a choice of two (reasonably expensive) set menus. Great if you want a 'dining out' experience. Not so good if you want a simple, quick meal after a day of sightseeing. The room service choices are limited and pricey. We solved this by stepping outside and having dinner in one of the many alternatives nearby.

This aside, we were very happy with the Glo and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. We got a three-day rate from the web site that made it good value too.
