“Clean, Modern, Quiet, Spacious, Well equipped”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

Although it's not in the centre of the city, it doesn't really matter unless you are having very short trip as Helsinki is very concise.
If you speak English, there wouldn't too many problems (or Finnish of course or Swedish maybe). But it might be troublesome if you only speak other languages as there is no reception.
I liked the room as it was clean, modern, quiet, spacious and had every equipment we needed. But we only had twin bed instead of double bed. And the room felt dark and cold but it might be cultural.
In general, I could recommend this accommodation to my friend especially if you want to have privacy.

Reading some reviews I realized that there are 2 different locations of Sato Hotel Home. Even now, trying to write a review of the Kristianinkatu one, TA didn't allow me to.
We stayed at the Kristianinkatu hotel, which had been renovated in mid 2013. We had 2 large studios for 2 people each (with proper beds), which were exactly as shown on the pics of the hotel. As we knew before, we were allowed in the studios only at 4pm, which was fine for us, and we had received the codes to access the rooms via email, which also worked well. The studio was clean, spacious with modern furniture and the kitchen well supplied (toaster, coffee maker, cook top and oven, dishwasher). The hotel is located in the residential Kruunuhaka district, not far from the city center but away of the touristic area, there's a tram and bus stop nearby. It is a few blocks away from the marina/harbor and a stroll along the harbor is worth it. There's many choices of restaurants and supermarkets around and the area is known for its vintage shops. This is a perfect choice if you want to see a bit of the locals' way of living.

We travelled from Turkey via Riga, Tallinn and lastly Helsinki. We were aware that there was no reception and that access to the apartment was via a door code which had been emailed to us prior to our stay. We were also aware that access would be from 4pm and that we would have to leave by 11am, and there would be no flexibility in this.
We got to the building before 3pm, and sat in the local park, 5 mins walk away. It was a bit of a pain, but we knew this could happen, so hey ho. However, at 4pm, we tried to access the building with the code and nothing happened. It was obvious that another group in an adjacent building were experiencing the same problems. We tried to telephone the number displayed but could not get through. At 16:07, the code worked and the door released. 7 minutes may not seem a long time, but when you feel stranded and have waited a long time to get in, it is very stressful. On the inside there is a communal lobby and lift, which took us to our apartment. Again, we accessed the external door via the code and entered C59 apartment.
First impressions were "where are the beds". There was a single bed pushed up against the wall - this didn't appear big enough for a standard UK bed, and the bedding was poor - there was a mattress topper and 1 very small, thin pillow. When we looked further, there was another pull out bed, which was even smaller than the first, and was not made up with any bedding whatsover. On checking further we found another topper, and bed linen with again 1 very thin pillow. There were hairs on the beds and the whole sleeping set up was not suitable for 1 person, never mind 2. The apartment was not clean, there was dust everywhere. There were scraps of food on the kitchen floor and there was ingrained food debris on the cooking pans. There are no curtains just blinds, so the room is very light. There is 1 easy chair to sit in, so a second person has to sit on the bed to watch TV. The TV cables weren't working, and had to be set up which took about 30 mins to work out. There was no place to store suitcases, as floor space was very limited. As the telephone had not worked, I immediately emailed a complaint and then we decided we needed to get out of the apartment for some provisions etc otherwise this accommodation would have completely ruined our holiday. We later received an email stating that beds and linen are all they have but we could have let housekeeping in to clean if we gave a time. As we were staying 2 nights, 1 day, we decided to clean the kitchen and pans ourselves. The food came out of the pans which was a bonus!! On a positive note, we would say:
1: If a better bed, this would be okay for a single person.
2: Facilities are good, fridge, oven, microwave, pans etc - if they were clean.
3: Good location, quiet apart from the ball park opposite.
4: Good sized TV and DVD player was a bonus.
5: Secure and safe with strong, consistent wi fi.
Realistic review:
1: Uncomfortable and unsuitable beds ruin this accommodation.
2: Inflexible check in times are poor.
3: No reception is poor as complaint resolution was inadequate.
4: Expensive in comparison to other accommodation we have taken (£144 for 2 nights, we realise Finland is quite expensive but for us not good VFM)
Terrible - would not return nor would we recommend.

The appartments were great! Very new and clean. Some disadvantageous though: we could not enter our appartment directly, as we had some problems with the door code. But these were solved in about 20 minutes. The appartment is fine, although we did not sleep very well on the pull-out couch. The beds are fine. So maybe this appartemnt would be better for 2 people so you do not need to use the pull-out couch to sleep on. The appartment is located in a ratio of 20 minutes walk from the city center. Many ethnic restaurants in the area.

This is a great place to stay when visiting Helsinki. It's in city centre and close to everything you will ever need for your visit to Finland's capital.

So, here's my review about the...:

ROOMS/APARTMENT: We have booked a 4 person apartment, with large bedroom (2 beds, one is hidden inside a closet), kitchen, living room and bathroom (1 1/2). In the apartment you will find everything you need for your immediate needs - dishwasher, toaster, stove, microwave oven, oven, cutlery (in the kitchen), washing machine, linen, towels, and other supplies (bedroom and bathroom), etc.

CLEANLINESS: Super clean (kitchen and bathrooms spotless). Nothing to say about the cleanliness of the linen and the towels, as they were white clean

STAFF: We haven't met anyone in person, but we have exchanged some messages by email about the booking and arrangements. Super friendly and everything was in order when we arrived at the location, and also every worked out exactly the way we were told.

EATING: In this case, you will be on your own. It's an apartment. So, if you don't want to spend a lot of money at the local restaurants (as Helsinki's not cheap for portuguese standards), you should go the local supermarkets to buy food. There's the alternative of buying out and take it home :)

LOCATION: It's in the city centre, close to everything. The mostly known attraction of the city is likely to be Helsinki's Cathedral, and the apartment is as far as a 5 minute walk there.
It's also close to various supermarkets and transportation.

OVERALL: Excellent!

Sato Hotel home in Lapinlahdenkatu 8 is a condo with several small apartment in the center of Helsinki downtown. The bright side of the stay is the price. 100€ per night is unbeatable in the center of helsinki. We stayed for 2 night. High floor is most enjoyable both for the panorama and the natural light. Studios are really small but amazingly well furnished and studied for short stays. Dishes, glasses, fork and knives, spoons, pans, toilet towel and bed linen, tv, iPod stereo system (bring your own iPod) fridge, coffee machine, kettle, iron, oven and even a small dishwasher. You can really find everything you need in the house. remember to bring out garbage and to deliver it to the dump room in the basement of the building. Saunas have shift for man and women and are at the ground floor.
Exellent position for a cheap and cozy apartment if you want to visit the magic city of Helsinki.

Room Tip: high floor room give you a better view and a quieter night.

This apartment has no reception, you get a PIN code to enter the apartment. That means you are left alone without any service whatsoever. Upon entering the room a very strong curry smell immediately hit me. Obviously a significant shortcoming of house keeping, even airing the room didn't help much. Making it worse the bathroom had a very strong drainage smell. Overall the state of the apartment was totally unacceptable. The parking outside the apartment is very limited and you're left with either walking far or standing the risk of getting a parking ticket. If you only overstay the check-out time by 5-10mins you will find yourself automatically locked out, with no way to enter the apartment, ridiculous. Overall this apartment is not recommended.
