Meche is not really a traditional bistro restaurant, but more somewhere in the middleground of fine dining & bistro. Some of the dishes had a lot of technique and finesse.
We had a party of six enjoying a 4-course surprise menu. The food was very good, and they use a lot of local products. First dish was a cold mixture of marinated baltic herring, shrimps, vegies un a clear, acidic and slightly sweet broth. Fairly inexpensive ingredients prepared to perfection, an excellent dish. Next up was local countrystyle meat terrine with some marinated vegies and small mousses to add to the flavor. Very nicely balanced, fullbodied flavours, very good but not a mind blowing dish. Next up local sirloin with trouffel flavoured mashed potatoes and a beatiful savoy side. The mashed potatoes were among the best I've ever had, and the whole dish would have been just incredible if it wasn't for the sirloin, which was chewy, like always. I just don't get sirloin, it is practically never good. The desert was again incredible combo of different chocolate techniques and a walnut ice cream. Wines were very well chosen, service was friendly and professional, the decor is modern, hip, simplistic. The place was packed - at least on this Saturday night. Highly recommendable.
