“Sauna and Swim all as Nature intended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

For a minimal €5, attended the all male Saturday night sauna and swimming session. Spotlessly clean, an unchlorinated pool and a wonderful restful atmosphere. Probably one of the best sauna experiences I've had in over 30 years of having saunas around the world. What was so great was the wonderfully hot sauna followed by a cooling off in the swimming pool, completely naked. Very popular with probably over 100 people using the facilities.

“Women's favorite in Helsinki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

One of my abolute favorite places to relax in Helsinki is the Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall. It has a unique atmosphere, like going to a different time-zone and different place. It is the best place to go with your friends - or alone - and just enjoy life. The elements are all there - a hot wood-heated sauna, a lovely spa environment, a small pool to swim in, and, the best of all, in-spa cafeteria to satisfy your thirst and hunger (even wine or sparkling!) If you are in need of a massage, even that can be arranged! However, it's not the best place for speedy condition swimming as the pool is not very big and most people come here to take things easy. The upstairs and downstairs have different services and prices - I'd recommend upstairs any time. You get a towel and dressing-gown, can have a lie-down on your own bed, and have access even to a steam-sauna. It's pricier but worth it! Downstairs you will meet a lot of old die-hard regular sauna ladies who will really make you sweat in the sauna! You can swim naked in the pool if you like, but a swim-suit is alright too. When you enter the facilities you may encounter a rather intimidating matron at the counter but persevere - you won't be disappointed.

“Avoid at any cost”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

I've visited this beautiful swimming hall for years.
I've loved it.

For women it has been a private refuge , a sanctuary away from prying eyes where you can really forget yourself and focus on relaxing.
That´s the only place in Finland where you can swim without a bathing suit if you so choose, (most women there do, it´s the traditional way).
It´s not a "business" either, the property belongs to the City of Helsinki.
They´ve managed to keep the sleazy away, going there has always felt really innocent, in a way. It has sent the message to the people that we're all equal, all just the same under our clothes and bathing suits. It has been the ONLY place in Helsinki where you can really forget about yourself no matter what you look like. No one´s judging you.

Up until now.
They've hired a male custodian/lifeguard on women's days.
Unbelievable lack of respect towards their customers.

My guess is that The City of Helsinki is looking forward to sell the place for a private investor and make good money, the beautiful swimming hall is on one of the prime spots in Helsinki.
And base for this will be "there weren't enough customers".
Wonder why?

If you, my reader, have any concern about rights of the female gender, like this review and avoid that place for it's owner's decision to bring "the snake" into our garden.
