“On good public transport routes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2010

Helsinki is expensive (by my standards, anyway) so if you don't want to pay the inflated prices to stay in the centre, this place is OK. It's quite basic, and lacking in atmosphere, but it's on good public transport routes - to get to the airport via the Finnair bus or a normal bus, and to get into town by tram (it's on a circular route so you can take the tram in either direction). The metro is only a couple of tram stops away. I didn't try the breakfast, but there's a supermarket nearby

as finnish person main reason for this was price level, which is not so nice when being in Helsinki, 2 nights for 46e/night basic single room at top 8th floor, so could have a go. positive was price and thats about all of it, did not have breakfast. not terrible, but basic. if you are light sleeper or with good hearing, it is not for you. room doors have been renovated recently, do not wonder why. this does not help much, mostly all the sounds coming from inside the building, paper walls, elevator noises blingbling etc. 2 small parking fields, if there is room, got stuck in the snow two times. bathroom goes back to 1960s like all the hotel being former place for students. for short stay with this price it goes, anyway would not like to spend there weeks

Service was friendly rooms are tiny and are old converted student halls and the place still has that feel no charm. Bathroom clean, free internet in reception. Located just off a main road that is on a bus route.

If you just want a basic room then this suffices.

Ava is located in an old student hall and feels far more like a hostel than a hotel. The room was clean apart from the curtains but was very basic with no carpet or shampoo. There was a TV but it only picked up three channels with very poor reception. The bathroom was basically a wetroom but at least there was hot water both days we were there. As there were no carpets anywhere there was a fair amount of noise from the surrounding rooms and also from the pipes. Our room was not cleaned between days but we did get some new towels.

It does have a sauna but I didn't use it so cannot comment on it.

In terms of location it is not near the centre but there are buses nearby that take about 15 minutes and cost about 2.5 Euros. About the only thing going for Ava really is that it is cheap in a very expensive city but if you are on a very tight budget maybe an actual hostel would be better.

very cozy hotel appr. 10-15 minutes from the centre by public transport. (in fact, if one goes by tram, it will make 15 minutes, but if to take metro and then the same tram - will make 10 minutes).
The hotel is located in residental area, very quite and nice.
We stayed at a double room. Room was clean, renovated, with a good bathroom. Big TV, wide beds with linen and 2 towels for each guest.
Buffet breakfast was above my expectations.
I consider this hotel to be the best option for private tourists.. it is much better than to share bathroom with other guests in hostels..here you have a small private spot in the urban environment.
In my opinion, it is the best choice for a budget stay.

We stayed in the Hotelli AVA for one night, and were very impressed with how CLEAN and quiet it was, the beds were very comfortable, the showers were hot, and the self-serve buffet breakfast provided, was as much as you wanted to eat with something to suit everyone; the staff were friendly and very helpful.

Obviously it is not a 5 star hotel, it is basic accomodation, but as I said before it was very clean, and the prices very good, especially if you were going to stay for a weekend. My husband and I will definately be going back to stay there again, and probably take the kids next time as a 3 roomed, 6 bedded appartment was only 117E for the night.
