“Great location, staff and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

I had the pleasure of spending two nights in a Single Room at Hostel Erottajanpuisto in June 2012. The Hostel is located in two repurposed flats on the second floor of a beautiful old apartment building located on Uudenmaankatu – right in the middle of the ‘design district’. Location is very central and the neighbourhood is friendly with lots of cafes, restaurants and small, arty shops.
If you have lots of luggage, getting up the staircase leading to reception can be daunting (there is no lift), but the cheerful and extremely helpful staff soon make up for that.
My room was bright and clean, had an own sink and mirror as well as a TV. The bed was comfortable, though the walls to the adjoining room where a bit too thin for my liking. But nothing earplugs could not fix.
The hostel has several small toilets and showers, but maybe not quite enough showers to prevent the odd wait at ‘peak hours’.
There’s a communal kitchen, a PC with internet access for free use as well as Wifi. Lockers can be hired for a fee of 2 Euros plus deposit. The reception area is well equipped with info material for travellers
Overall the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed and I very much enjoyed my stay here. Would I return? Definitely.

Erottajanpuisto is a nice little hostel on the 2nd floor. Staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were decent (and ours had a sink and faucet inside) and the kitchen was clean and well-equipped.

Unfortunately, the hostel is situated right above a bar which means loud noise all throughout the night. We were also woken up by people in the next room (the walls are very thin) as well as gulls screaming outside our window early in the morning. Worse still, at the time we were there (June 2012) the building was under renovation, which means there was scaffolding all along the building, including right outside the rooms' windows. This not only means that your view is blocked and that the room is stuffy and dusty, but you also have construction workers literally right outside your window at early hours of the morning. But you get what you pay for!

It's a very good place to stay in Helsinki. Very friendly personnel, always ready to help. Very clean rooms and kitchen with a nice atmosphere. A lot of useful information for tourists in many languages.
If go again in Helsinki, I'll stay here again.
Good luck and thank you!

There is cleaness.

It's a little bit difficult to find this hostel, but not far from the station.
There is no lift.

I stayed here with two friends in March 2011. It was the first time that I'd stayed in a hostel and this place was great. The staff were super friendly and the location was perfect. we had a private room with three seperate beds and a sink. The common bathrooms were clean and the building itself was very nice. Bear in mind that you will need to carry your luggage up a few flights of stairs wbut it's not difficult for thise with moderate fitness. Helsinki itself is a beautiful city. Make sure you day a day trip to Tallin in Estonia.

I come to this hostel from Turku whenever i have meetings and/or conferences in Helsinki (i work for libraries so i come to the capital quite a lot). The hostel really is a little bit of a gem in downtown Helsinki, with as
awesome staff and a really comfy and casual atmosphere and some people to have a chat with. You know, a real hostel. I've been here only during the weekdays.

It feels funny to stay at hostels in your own city (i'm from here, In Turku only temporarily), but it's such a great idea and gives you perspective.

Beds were really comfortable and clean, internet is excellent, location is also excellent.
Im 33 and those things are at the top of my list of requirements!.

The staff were also extremely friendly and were always there to help.

Room Tip: There is no tv in the common room but there are in some of the bedrooms.... if you are desperate for...
