“Room with a beautiful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

This was our first stay and we loved it. Hotel has a beautiful view of the bay on a quite street. It is not far from the city center but avoids the tourist crowd. The staffs were warm and kind. While the room is a little dated, it is clean and well kept. My only complaint is that the location is away from the good restaurants and you'll have either walk or take expensive taxi to eat.

Room Tip: Room faces the bay.

We spent 6 nights at the friendly hotel which is 3 minutes walk to tram and bus stop. The hotel is facing the sea and canal. We could watch people rowing, fishing from the exercise room. The sauna is fantastic. Sun terrace is comfortable. Great selection of breakfast. Our quiet, King size room is facing the canal. Central Train station and city centre is only 10 minutes walk. Bus 615 to airport is just 3 minutes walk from hotel. Lots of restaurant nearby as well.

If you fancy the TV show Dallas, and would like to stay at a 80's top Hilton Hotel to get that cowboy feelin' - then The Strand is for you. Located just 500 metres or so from city centre, it boasts great views of the river and can guarantee a very quiet nights sleep. Check in and check out is painfree, the bulletproof elevators whisk you to your desired floor and once you enter your room you'll immediately notice how extra large it is compared to, say, a New York standard room - at any hotel. And you'll notice that wall-to-wall carpets are present along with a host of neat features such as a marble desk, marble table, marble lamps and marble bathroom. All in that colour brownish. There were some wear and tear factors but since I only stayed one night I cannot go into details other than random scratches here and there, missing lamp-cover screws and a socket for your electric shaver which has seen too many electric shavers.
Bed is huge and soft, with a wide array of pillows.
Breakfast overall good experience but missed the freshly squeezed juices I've come to love (London Double-Tree currently owns my breakfast of the year award).

Room Tip: Fourth floor with river views are ultra quiet

Overall the hotel is a little tired and the rooms could use a facelift. BUT, you overlook all that when the service is this exceptional. We arrived but our bags did not...for 10 days, the front desk associates, called SwissPort trying to track our bags for us;even though we had moved on to another destination. When we returned, bags were already in the room.

The breakfast buffet is very satisfying and if you want your eggs a different way, just ask. Cappuccino? Just ask. All part of the 5 star service. There is free wifi in the lobby, and of course if you are Hilton Honors gold, platinum or on the executive level, then you also have wifi in your room.

The beds are really comfy and the bath amenities are standard Hilton fare.

It is about a 15 minute walk to the Esplanade but the views are worth it. If you can, try to get a room with a view of the water. If you don't want to walk to the center, jump on the 6 tram(make sure to get a ticket as the fine is 80€) and get off in front of Stockmann's.

We loved this hotel, it is 10min walk from the center of Helsinki, the staff were friendly, helpful and very polite. The hotel provided a complimentary wheelchair for a family member who required assistance, and nothing was too much. The pool was slightly cool, but otherwise, I would recommend this hotel most highly.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

We just came back from our 2 day stay here. We originally booked a double guest Plus room - it was very nice and fairly large, but switched to a smaller room, but with a balcony. Much smaller, but boy, the balcony made a difference. Fresh air, drinks on the balcony at night with a great view, coffee in the morning, The rooms had minibar, but very expensive ( 6 euro for 500ml water bottle, 9 Euro for liquor). The hotel is in a very nice area, surrounded by sea water, but also a lake and park - excellent for leisure walks and biking - just from the hotel front door. Walking distance to the main Senate Square, fish market, ferry terminals. We walked with our backpack from the Ferry terminal in about 15 minutes, but would not be easy with wheel luggage - rough cobble streets and sidewalks everywhere. The hotel has very nice swimming pool and wonderful saunas. 1 sauna for ladies, 1 for gentlemen, but you can also book one of 2 private saunas. Everything very clean and plenty of clean towels. Swimming pool has access to open veranda with beautiful sea view, so do the saunas, I enjoyed that a lot, after sauna sitting to cool off on the veranda. We had breakfast each morning. Breakfast could be improved, I can not say the cook is good at all, eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes and beans were the choices and nothing tasted good. But abundance of fruit, fresh vegetables, juices and smoked salmon made up for it. When back in Helsinki, we would definitely stay here again - mainly for the hotel quality and spa area. Front desk service excellent and helpful. The only thing - the carpets in the rooms could be maintained better and should have free in room wifi ( costs 10 Euro/day).

Room Tip: Room with a balcony.

This hotel is not in most central location, about 10 min walk to the center of Helsinki. Most rooms have a nice sea view though.

Interior of the rooms seem a bit tired. Especially the wall to wall carpet could retire in my opinion. Decent WiFi service, but breakfast selection was rather dull. Overall ok hotel, but there are many better options in Helsinki to choose from.
